Continue ReadingAs I crisscross through the event, I closed out the most important class, 2021 because they are seniors and the clock is ticking and I jumped to the 2023 class because one of those players were erroneously placed in the 2021 group and again, I hate do-overs, I like things to flow a certain way but that’s just me. I also like how this talent flowed at the event, from players I knew were can’t miss in the 6th grade like Donovia Hall Donovia Hall 5'11" | SF Plano East | 2022 State TX to the vastly improved Aniah Hall Aniah Hall 6'3" | PF Temple | 2022 State TX and I don’t know if they’re related to Arsenio but they too will be hits
Brianna Wilson Brianna Wilson 5'11" | PF Akins Early College | 2022 State TX -6’0 PF (Akins HS) Hays
Wilson’s performance at the Duel States Girls Combine got her added to the Top 100 as she was simply overpowering and it’s only gotten better as she understands how to use her body to her advantage. She finishes strongly, after contact, rebounds strongly, and applies heat on the defensive end the same way, strongly. She also has shown she can hit the midrange consistently
Abigail Kileen-5’7 PF (Brennan HS) San Antonio Lady Hoops
Kileen has me adding that #THROWBACK in here because she’s undersized yet plays as if she’s at the magic number and two things play a big part, her frame, and her desire because she can punish on either end of the floor, she showed me that at #AllEyezOnMe and #TJShowcase but she can drop the mid to long-range as well as put it on the floor and attack, she made one of the nicest reverse layups at the event
Aniah Hall Aniah Hall 6'3" | PF Temple | 2022 State TX -6’3 PF (Temple HS)
Hall had me write upside the first time I saw her, progression the second but her performance at several events I’ve covered this season, including Heart Of Texas or the Super 64, she showed me something I hadn’t seen and that was she was a #BEAST in the paint and I haven’t seen too many players go after the ball like she is doing, on both ends and that’s on a college coach shortlist dream player so as she applies the “you won’t outwork me” mindset moving forward, she’s finishing strongly and still is nowhere near the finished product
Jada West-5’11 PF (Brennan HS) San Antonio Lady Hoops
West can be menacing in the paint and she continues to show various signs. Yes she was one of the top bigs at #AllEyezOnMe and her steadily improving game, on both ends has definitely not gone unnoticed. I take mental notes and I understand where she was when I first saw her and I see the progression, she finishes better, hands and footwork are better and she runs the floor but all of that is fine, her defense at the event just added more
Mackenzie McKown-5’11 SF (Memorial HS) Just Play Elite
McKown has been impressive the times I’ve captured her, why because first of all, she’s long and athletic, and remember what I always say, that’s the base. She can attack from the wing or straight down the middle and does a good job of finishing after contact but she also showed she could face the basket and score, defend and rebound on both ends
Donovia Hall Donovia Hall 5'11" | SF Plano East | 2022 State TX -5’10 SF (Plano East HS) Urban Heroes
Hall sold me in the 6th grade, her poise, her frame, and what she was doing on the court were ahead of her years, let me throw this out, she’s one of the most underrated players in the state, she can take over a game with the blink of an eye, she showed that via live stream, you may wanna check the archive because she’s hard to check on defense, mid to long and off the dribble, but she can apply heat on that end as well
Jacelyn Chervenka-6’0 PF (Rogers HS)
Chervenka was another pleasant surprise at the I-35 because I hadn’t seen her before and at 61, I don’t remember every “long and athletic” player I come across, those with good hands and footwork that can also play the passing lane usually stick into that petabyte of storage yet she did a good job rebounding on both ends as well as defending plus she showed she could finish
Giana Vlahakos.-6’0 PF (Memorial HS) Just Play Elite
Vlahakos didn’t play last season due to an injury yet you never would’ve known as she combines sheer power in the paint either to score and finish after contact or rebound, on both ends of the court but she also showed she could face the basket and score on the short jumper and even put it on the floor and attacked the rim but she plays good defense inside the paint and is mobile enough to step out and defend
