<strong>2022 Rankings Update: Potential Breakout Candidates</strong>
We welcome tons of new faces with our latest 2022 rankings update. While some players are more established than others, there are a few on the list that could see their production really take a leap their junior season. Offseason work and graduation ahead of them has opened up an avenue to see their stock rise even more in our future updates. Here’s a look at some players that should really make an impact on the varsity level this upcoming season.
<strong>14. 5-10 CG [player_tooltip player_id="195600" first="Ky’Shonna" last="Brown"] – Josey</strong>
With a handful of High Major offers that rolled in over the summer, [player_tooltip player_id="195600" first="Ky’Shonna" last="Brown"] is one of Georgia’s hottest prospects and easiest picks to have a breakout season. She averaged 7.4 points per game as a sophomore but now has the attention of everyone after seeing her phone ring off the hook. She’s athletic guard with length and can attack defenses in a variety of ways. For Josey to finally win a region title, Brown will have to exude her star power.
<strong style="font-size: 1rem;">29. 5-9 PG [player_tooltip player_id="153116" first="Dayuna" last="Colvin"] – North Cobb<img class="alignright wp-image-206880 size-thumbnail" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2020/09/95_Dayuna-Colvin_2-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></strong>
Two All-State guards in [player_tooltip player_id="118073" first="Azonya" last="Austin"] (Alabama A&M) and [player_tooltip player_id="153140" first="Sydney" last="Thomas"] (Kentucky State) graduate, meaning all the focus shifts toward talented playmaker [player_tooltip player_id="153116" first="Dayuna" last="Colvin"]. North Cobb has had a proud history of winning games and producing next level college guards and Colvin fits the bill. With her size and skill, she’s able to probe defenses and distribute at a high level. She will have a chance to show what she can do offensively as Colvin has to be the go-to option when it comes to scoring the ball. With the amount of usage she will see, Colvin could put up some big numbers across the board with her solid all-around floor game.
<strong style="font-size: 1rem;">43. 5-6 PG [player_tooltip player_id="210305" first="Becca" last="Ledford"] – Fannin County</strong>
[player_tooltip player_id="210305" first="Becca" last="Ledford"] came on strong down the stretch last season as a reliable point guard that could handle pressure, defend and score when needed. She’s a good athlete that’s quick and measured when attacking defenses. Ledford plays with great toughness, sticking her nose in 50/50 balls and not backing down from challenges. Morgan Holt is now at North Georgia, meaning the offense will run through Ledford full time. She should be on every D-II’s radar in Georgia.
<strong style="font-size: 1rem;">64. 6-0 PF [player_tooltip player_id="210338" first="Keimarya" last="Rivera"] – Cherokee</strong>
On a roster that’s always loaded with veterans, [player_tooltip player_id="210338" first="Keimarya" last="Rivera"] has patiently waited her time. Heading into her junior season, expect Rivera to make an immediate impact in the paint next to Furman-commit [player_tooltip player_id="148889" first="Kate" last="Johnson"]. Rivera is athletic and does a good job sealing when fighting for position. She’s got naturally skilled feet and is quick off the ground for rebounds. Keimarya scores around the hoop with both hands and is comfortable playing with her back to the basket. Rivera has upside defensively as a shot blocker. It will be interesting to watch her progress over the next two seasons as she becomes a sought-after prospect.
<strong style="font-size: 1rem;">71. 5-11 SG [player_tooltip player_id="186270" first="Jillian" last="Bretz"] – Forsyth Central</strong>
Coming off All-Region and All-County Second Team honors, [player_tooltip player_id="186270" first="Jillian" last="Bretz"] should see even more accolades file through over the next two seasons. She could be one of our bigger jumpers in our next rankings update. Bretz is a big wing that can shoot from deep and put the ball on the floor. She’s able to play multiple positions on both sides of the floor. When Bretz puts her head down, she can turn corners quickly and get to the rim in a hurry. Agnes Scott has already offered. She will have a handful more by the end of the season.
<strong style="font-size: 1rem;">72. 5-11 F [player_tooltip player_id="210366" first="Sariya" last="Henry"] – Grayson<img class="alignright wp-image-206881 size-thumbnail" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2020/09/96_Sariya-Henry_2-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></strong>
Joining Grayson this upcoming season, [player_tooltip player_id="210366" first="Sariya" last="Henry"]’s athleticism, length and motor will play a big part in the Rams’ potential success. Henry is still piecing together her game but where she may lack in polish, she makes up for with effort. Henry is a tough rebounder and has the ability to alter shots defensively. Her game is still growing.
