2022 Shooting Guards from Top 250 Expo

Shooting guards, scoring guards, the acronym SG means a number of things to me but I love watching players that simply find ways to put the ball in the basket. I mentioned [player_tooltip player_id="135385" first="Suni" last="Davis"] in one of my previous recaps from the event and how she showed me she was just that player in the 7th grade, this is why I love seeing the younger players at showcases and events to get a grip on what’s coming, I caught quite a few yesterday at a local event but that’s coming later, right now, here are some of those SG players and remember to follow me @girlzprepreport on Twitter, Facebook, and The Gram Annabelle Burnett-5’4 (Plano West HS) Burnett showed a mixture of jumpers and attacking the basket in the opening game yet as the event progressed, she showed she could handle the ball under pressure as well as create her shot while being tightly defended and although that may sound easy, it isn’t, especially when she adds a nice pull-up jumper from midrange that was consistent throughout the day. Good athleticism and has a feel for understanding when to take over offensively which was quite a few times Farren Donald-Wright-5’6 (St Pius X HS) @farrendw2022 Donald-Wright was athletic and handled the ball well, which includes the open court while being guarded yet it also includes that half-court where she created her shot and attacked the basket, finishing numerous times multiple ways as well as her outside shot. The midrange was smooth, the shot was fluid and accurate but then she just took it to a different level and was dropping the long ball and when you can do that going full speed on the break like she did, that’s huge Menaiya Ewing-5’6 (Trinity Christian-Lubbock) Ewing first impressed me with her rebounding, especially against taller players but she rebounded powerfully and finished against those same taller players on putbacks so this gives you a glimpse of her strength yet she has numerous strengths other than offensive rebounding and scoring, she showed the midrange, she attacked the rim from the wing for baskets and she showed she could shoot the three quite well as she created her shot nicely while being defended Kayle Nguyen-5’5 (Carroll HS) @2022kaylenguyen Nguyen was another of the many players that just understands the importance of being able to create their shot and she did it over and over against taller players in a variety of ways. She has a nice first step, she showed the change of pace and she even showed a little of the HEZ but she got to her spot, well spots, which was 10-15, and dropped it but she also showed she could knock down the long ball, she did that numerous times and her ability to catch and shoot grabbed my attention as well Lauren Smith-5’4 (Pearland HS) @Smith_lauren_3 Smith is from right here in Houston and I hadn’t seen much of her which shows one more time "talent is everywhere" if you know what you’re looking at so maybe I didn’t have a roster could be one of the many reasons yet she definitely "seized the opportunity" to show me a number of things, like her midrange, remember that’s a lost art yet college coaches love players that can knock it down but she created her shot so well and she showed she could shoot it from BTA Makenna Walker-5’8 (Princeton HS) @MakennaWalker34 Walker made her presence felt the first time I saw her as she just dropped it from everywhere as if she was playing "around the world" in a game yet as the season progressed, she showed me she was more than a long ball shooter and at the event, she did a little bit of everything offensively. Yes, she’s a legitimate shooter, one of the best at the Top 250, her release is quick and she understands how to set defenders up. She can also come off the screen and score, she can attack, she can shoot the step back but that "catch and shoot" looked really good
