Shooting guards are always needed, especially those who can score multiple ways because of certain situations in games and here are a variety that showed they could not only shoot it but found ways to put the ball into the basket at the event [player_tooltip player_id="202481" first="Mercedes" last="Mancha"]-5’6 (Alvin HS) Mancha has been putting o shooting exhibitions since te 7th grade and watching her score point from mid to long-range at that early stage caught my eye, especially when she was doing it in the flow and not really having anything ran for her but over the years, that changed and she became a knock-down threat that could drop it from everywhere in any situation and she pulled just about everything she had from her hat at the event from mid to NBA range, the pull-up in transition and even finishing off the dribble with either hand, after contact [player_tooltip player_id="202488" first="Empress" last="Roberts"]-5’6 (Harker Heights HS) Roberts has the right first name, sort of, which means "sovereign ruler of great power" but that first step has great power and does her pull-up jumper, it’s like a boy, and that’s something you don’t see a lot because she elevates on her jumper and can defy gravity and let it go at the right time for buckets. She was impressive at #TJShowcase and even more after getting an even better look at her but her athleticism enabled her to finish multiple ways, after contact Yasmine Perez-5’6 (Keith Wagner HS) Perez showed a nice mixture of not only creating her shot but how she created it and making the HEZ look easy, that’s hesitation and it’s a very nice tool to have because it gets the defensive player off balance, it also gave her numerous opportunities to attack and drop the "floata" yet she also has range, dropped the three-ball numerous times with players on her tightly but she can "catch and shoot" quickly and accurately n Mary Esther Sosa-5’3 (Edison HS) Sosa was so smooth with creating her shot, she mixed it up nicely with the pull-up jumper from midrange or just attacked the rim from multiple angles but seeing her use the stop in pop in transition or drop te long ball was also yet she too was one of the best "catch and shoot" players, with accuracy, at the event Skyler Witt-5’8 (Episcopal HS) Witt went off earlier in the season, she was relatively unknown to me yet one thing she showed me back then, she could score. Nothing changed in the event, she was one of both the best "shooters and scorers" because her pull-up is solid, she creates it very well and her form is pretty close to picture-perfect. Add range, mid to long and while you’re adding, throw in her accuracy because she’s consistent every time I see her Ariana Gutierez-5’10 (Veterans Memorial HS) Gutierez went coast to coast numerous times and seeing her either go straight down the middle for layups or zig-zagging her way through traffic while handling the ball nicely enabled her to score with the pull-up jumper. She also did a good job of creating her shot in the half-court set, knocked the midrange down several times Katelyn Chomko-5’7 (Tomball Memorial HS) Chomko initially caught my eye by playing the passing lane and making a few layups and then she did it again and dropped the jumper, back to back. Fast forward to her being in the half-court situation and creating her shot off the dribble showing a consistent pull-up jumper Erika Suarez-5'7 (Hendrickson HS) Suarez was suave on the court, played within herself, and showed she could get hers in the flow and that's an important attribute for a number of reasons because she showed other ways to help her team. The game is more than just scoring, she played solid defense yet she also attacked and finished strong a few times and her midrange pull-up was definitely nice
