Last Friday in week three action, the Ducks ran their record to 6-0 with a 31-point win over Maryland and a 19-point defeat of South Carolina. We have written about the backbone of the Oregon team in previous weeks – the Hanna triplets of Maple Grove – but we haven’t told you about the player who might be the team’s best college prospect. That would be 2025 guard Myah Maull Myah Maull 5'7" | CG Eastview | 2025 State MN of Apple Valley.
Whether we are talking about an AAU tournament or Breakdown Fall League or the Fall Exclusive, when we are running around from one court to another we sometimes miss the forest for the trees, especially when scouting rosters that are almost entirely new to us. That’s certainly the case for the classes of 2025, 2026 and 2027 which we haven’t paid much attention to prior to the Fall Exclusive. In Week 3, however, we were able to get a closer look at a couple of teams and it took only a few minutes of Oregon’s 60-29 win over the Terrapins to realize that Maull is the real deal.
Myah is perhaps 5’8 with a medium build. She’s athletic, has fairly light feet and can get around the court as quick as you like. She is also strong for her age and plays a somewhat physical game. As you’ll note in the accompanying photo, Maull’s arms are long and she knows how to use that fact to her advantage. This was particularly obvious when Maull was defending the perimeter, where her wingspan and lateral quickness were huge assets.
Myah can handle the basketball and she gets to the rim on a consistent basis. We saw her score on a really sweet step-through move that left two defenders lost. She also cashed in on a well-executed reverse layup, a shot many young players attempt in reckless fashion with poor results. Maull, on the other hand, pulled it off with confidence and a soft touch like she’d done it countless times before.
Maull, who played for North Tartan 2025 Elite this summer, made a few cameo varsity appearances as a 7th grader at Apple Valley. Based on what we saw Friday, and the graduation of guards Anna Mutch Anna Mutch 5'8" | CG Apple Valley | 2020 State MN and Kalena Myers Kalena Myers 5'6" | CG Apple Valley | 2020 State MN , you’d have to think she’ll get a more extended look this winter. In the meantime she’ll compete for a Fall Exclusive championship Oct. 23 beside her teammates Addie Hanna, Bella Hanna and Lexie Hanna along with 6th grader Dylan Charlton of Burnsville and Wayzata 8th graders Chloe Feldman & Rory Goddard.
More big-time talent to see
While Oregon is in the driver’s seat for a Fall Exclusive championship, it would appear as though the Stanford Cardinal are peaking at the right time. Stanford beat South Carolina on Friday before knocking off UCONN to improve their record to 3-3. From the time the rosters were first assembled for the Fall Exclusive, it looked as though the Cardinal would be the team to beat.
We have already covered elite 2025 prospects Jordan Ode Jordan Ode 5'11" | CG Maple Grove | 2025 State MN of Maple Grove and Ella Kuhlman Ella Kuhlman 5'8" | PG North Branch | 2025 State MN of North Branch, two Minnesota Fury stars who are among the most dynamic 8th graders in Minnesota. Stanford has the highly athletic Brooklyn Lewis of New Ulm, a 2026 guard who flies around the court, plus 2025 guard Greta Crandall of Sartell, who is the younger sister of 2023 prospect Emily Crandall Emily Crandall 5'10" | CG Sartell | 2023 State MN . The roster also includes Taniysha Edwards of St. Paul plus youngsters Alexus Laleman and Lydia Halleen. The focus of our attention Friday, however, was on Sophie Hawkinson Sophie Hawkinson 5'8" | CG Wayzata | 2025 State MN .
We watched Sophie a little this summer with North Tartan, and every time we did we were impressed. The 5’6 point guard from Wayzata is strong and stocky and everything about her just screams ‘ATHLETE!’ Sophie is explosive. She’s fast and quick and has excellent elevation which enables her to play much bigger than her size. Hawkinson’s overall skill set is polished. Her shooting mechanics are outstanding and she can make shots from long distance on the regular.
The thing I like about Hawkinson the most is her energy level. She never takes a play off, is a passionate defender and is mentally engaged from start to finish. Combine all of that with a high basketball IQ and excellent court vision and you have a strong Division I prospect. We certainly saw all of it in action Friday against UCONN and 2026 phenom Tori Oehrlein Tori Oehrlein 5'10" | CG Crosby-Ironton | 2026 State MN of Crosby-Ironton, whose credentials are already well-established far beyond the borders of Minnesota.
After putting up 44 points in a single game during opening week of the Fall Exclusive, Tori missed week 2 because she was in Texas at a big showcase. She returned Friday night and picked right up where she left off. The 5’8 guard scored 32 points in UCONN’s first game. Against Stanford she took a whack in the nose early in the first half and was sidelined with the trainer for some time. When she returned Tori went right back to work, finishing the game with 24.
Oehrlein is special. Her understanding of the game and how to use her body is so advanced. She has excellent touch, superb skills, tremendous natural athleticism and a strong will to be successful. What I like most about Tori is the fact that she’s not out there to show the other kids up or gather social media views on another highlight reel. Her modus operandi is clear: find the simplest, most efficient way to score the basketball and keep others from doing the same. Watching her trade buckets with Ode, Hawkinson, Kuhlman and company was a ton of fun and we look forward to doing it for years to come.
