The 2021 point guard class came into high school with a strong reputation, maybe stronger than any of the other position groups, and they haven’t disappointed. There are prospects who fit in at every level, floor generals who can control tempo and run offense, athletes who can create their own shot or break down defenses, plus there are a few 84-feet defenders mixed in there as well. Below is a look at the 43 point guards who currently reside in our Class of 2021 Top-225 rankings, along with a quick look at the top five uncommitted prospects at this position. We will be following this article with one on each of the other position groups in the Class of 2021 throughout the rest of the week.

Courtney is as productive of a point guard as there is in this 2021 class. Heading into her Senior year, she currently sits at 1594 points, 324 assists, and 270 steals. She is a nice athlete in most directions, she’s wiry strong, and she has a quick first step that allows her to get defenders on her hip. She can knock down shots with range when in rhythm, and she has a really nice one and two-dribble pull-up in her arsenal. Courtney has drawn interest/offers from a variety of Division-I schools, but I could see her playing out her Senior year and adding to her already impressive résumé before she’s ready to make a commitment. She is certainly skilled, talented, and quite the competitor, so wherever she ends up, I’d anticipate her working her way into playing time early in her career.

Carley has kind of been snakebitten in terms of her recruiting. She put together an outstanding Freshman season, averaging 15.1 points per game. However, in the Fall of her Sophomore year she injured her knee playing JV football and subsequently missed the 2018-2019 basketball season and the following grassroots season. She returned to the court for the Tigers in 2019-2020 and averaged a solid 10.8 points, 3.8 assists, and 4.2 steals per game, but with COVID interrupting this Spring and Summer, she has unfortunately not gotten the chance to play live in front of many college coaches over the years. She is quick, quick with the ball, long, and she can score it at all three levels. I think at this point in her career, she could be a nice late “get” who ends up being quite the sleeper.

Linton has quite the talented starting unit, and I would anticipate them making a deep run in the 2A state tournament again this year. Aubrey is kind of the energy kid on their team, as she gets them fired up by making athletic plays at both ends of the floor. She is very active and anticipatory on defense, creating deflections and steals often. She is fast and aggressive in transition, catching her opponent on their heels from time to time. She can handle it and run offense in the half-court, she can get to the paint and create or score, and she has become more and more consistent from outside each season. She is just really solid in nearly every area of the game that I feel like she fits into many collegiate systems. In a class with a number of talented small college guard prospects, she is right up there.

If a college is looking for an athletic playmaker, then Courtney just might fit the bill. She has some length, wiry strength, and a great deal of toughness. She is an attacker first, and she’ll get to the rim and finish or find open teammates in a position to score. She has worked on her outside shot, and while that’s still the area that probably needs the most attention, she is starting to be a more consistent threat out there as well. I also think she has the talent and physical traits to become a high-level on-ball defender. She does a nice job in passing lanes off the ball right now, but when she’s fully engaged, I think she can be one of those 84-feet defenders. I really think she has about as much talent as anyone in this position group; she just needs to continue fine-tuning her skillset.

Jordyn has been through her share of bad luck, injuring her knee at the very end of the Summer in 2019. It caused her to miss a majority of the 2019-2020 high school season, then couple that with the cancellation of the Spring grassroots season and the limited visibility overall this Summer, and she just needs more opportunities to play in front of recruiters. Jordyn is a strong, physical, but fairly quick point guard. She does a nice job of taking care of the ball, executing the offense, and finding open teammates in positions to score. She is more than a game-manager, but she does have a great feel for the game and plays with a lot of efficiency. She was really solid when I saw her over the Summer, and I think she is going to have an outstanding year for a deep and talented Penn team.
