The state of high school basketball in CA is still up in the air, with the regular season tentatively scheduled to begin sometime in March. The class of 2021 was hoping to have one last season on the court before it’s all over but it’s not clear if that will actually take place.
Should the season begin there are a few seniors who might be flying under the radar a bit who could e players to watch. Here’s a quick look at some of those player in the class of 2021.
1. [player_tooltip player_id="160303" first="Jasmine" last="Stone"] - Long Beach Wilson
Stone is a very good glue player who excels on the defensive end. She can hound and harass players on the perimeter and she has quick hands that cause turnovers. She has quick feet too, she can stay down on shot fakes and she times her blocks well. She’s also a strong rebounder who is a double-double threat on any given night.
2. Rayshanti McNeal Price - Lancaster
McNeal Price is a post player who is also a little more versatile. She gets good position in the paint and she can finish strong at the rim. Good post footwork. She’s a good rebounder who fights on the offensive glass for extra possessions. She runs the floor well in transition. She can also step out and shoot the midrange jumper and she can put the ball on the floor.
3. [player_tooltip player_id="160310" first="Trasara" last="Alexander"] - Corona Del Mar
Alexander is a true shooting guard. She’s a crafty scorer who can hurt defenses in multiple ways. She’s a solid shooter from three-point range so defenders have to respect her shot. If she’s run off the three-point line, she can hit pull-up jumpers in the midrange. She’s also a crafty finisher at the rim who uses good footwork to get around the defense and to the basket.
4. [player_tooltip player_id="161679" first="Angie" last="Carroll"] - Xavier College Prep
Carroll recently took part in the Prep Girls Hoops 250 Top Expo in Arizona. One of the biggest things to me about Carroll is her knack for rebounding. She’s a relentless competitor on the boards. She boxes out properly and fights hard for loose balls. She’s a forward who uses her size well in the paint. She has a solid midrange shot and she can handle the ball a little bit.
5. Elizabeth Elliot - St. Mary’s Academy
Elliot is a the definition of a true post player. She has good footwork and can seal off her defender. Establishes good position in the paint and she has good hands catching passes. She goes up hard and finishes strong at the rim. Uses her size well to get her shot off. She also has a nice little fallaway jumper in the paint. Defensively, her presence alters a lot of opponent shots at the rim.
