We’re not talking about her height, but 5’11 is definitely an advantage heading into your freshman season. No, we are referring to the fact that Singleton-Buchanan already has varsity experience on her resume. It may have been a rough rebuilding season at Bloomington Kennedy last winter, but that meant Daviyana got a chance to play and she has leveraged that opportunity for positive improvement. That’s why she leads this list of 2024 prospects who raised their stock last Saturday at the Top 250 Expo.
Daviyana has length, agility and athleticism, and she brings a wide variety of assets to the table. She’s got nice shooting form and can make shots from beyond the arc on a consistent basis. She also scores a lot from mid-range, whether via the traditional jump shot or off a one-handed floater of sorts. Singleton-Buchanan does a nice job one-on-one and knows how to employ a change of speed to create space and time for herself to get past her defender and to the rim. Daviyana has a couple of go-to moves in the paint, as well. While there is plenty of polishing to be done, Singleton-Buchanan is definitely a player with college potential.
FIVE MORE FRESHMAN STOCK RISERS
Evie Kompelien – The 5’8 guard from Orono is a workhorse. We loved her body of work this summer on behalf of Crossfire Robertson, were she established a reputation as a an honest, hard-working soldier who always delivers a good effort. For that she earned honorable mention on our Hard Hat All Stars which tells you all you need to know about how Evie plays the game.
Ella Kletti – The 5’5 guard from Mahtomedi and the Minnesota Heat is a feisty competitor with quick feet, quality skills, a huge motor and a large dose of desire. Ella plays with pace on both sides of the ball. She is an aggressive defender with good instincts who is able to overcome her lack of height with all-out effort and energy.
Jenna Buer – We have watched Jenna a lot during the tryout season, as well as in the Fall Experience games over the past couple of weeks. The 5’8 guard from Holy Angels has been very impressive. She has a stocky build and is quite strong for her age. She is a quality athlete and an energetic competitor. In other words she has the things you can’t teach and is putting in the work to improve the things you can.
Jordyn Schmittdiel – The long, lanky Schmittdiel is one heck of an athlete. We watched the 5’9 guard from White Bear Lake several times this summer with the Minnesota Suns and every time she jumped right to the fore thanks to her light feet, effortless stride, great elevation and overall agility. Jordyn’s skill development has been steady, and when that catches up to her innate athletic ability look out!
Ava Nebben – There are plenty of talented basketball players around but very, very few have as much passion for the game as Ava. The 5’6 guard from Monticello and the Minnesota Suns eats, breathes and sleeps the game and never passes up an opportunity to compete and get better. She’s not the biggest or the strongest or the quickest but as she demonstrated at the Top 250 Expo Habben’s work ethic and never-say-die mentality will take her far.
