Continue ReadingTuesday morning we posted the first thorough update to our rankings in the Class of 2022 since the end of March. Naturally, there were a number of changes to the list, and while we expanded from 150 to 175 prospects back in mid-June, we did not expand this time around. Still, though, there are seven young ladies who are new to the Class of 2022 rankings as of this week, so below we take a look at those seven and let you know why they are now included in our PGH Indiana Top-175 for 2022.

Taylor was actually in our rankings when this site first began in the Fall of 2018, and she appeared there until roughly December of 2019. She did not play for the school team last Winter, so after communicating with local media, the assumption was that she had focused on another sport. Our apologies for removing her, as she showed up again this Summer for Grand Park Premier and looked every bit as effective as we recall. Taylor is a strong, physical, but highly skilled face-up ’4’. She can go to the low-block and score on smaller defenders, but she’s best in the mid-post and around the perimeter because of her shooting, passing, and overall awareness. She plays with sort of a European style of play and could draw a great deal of elite small college interest.

Jordan is one of those prospects equipped with all sorts of upside and potential. She is incredibly long, tall, and very athletic in all directions, including vertically. She runs the floor well, and she can make athletic plays other girls just can’t. She has a little skill in the mid-post, but she’s most comfortable around the block right now. If she can continue building her skillset away from the basket, I think it would really help her recruiting. Defensively, she does create a presence by altering/blocking a number of shots, and she can pursue rebounds outside of her area. Once she figures it all out, she could rise up the 2022 rankings quickly.

Maddie is one heck of a sleeper in Southern Indiana. She has a long, strong, and fairly athletic frame. She seeks contact and does a nice job of establishing position early at both ends of the floor. Defensively, she likes to “root out” opponents and keep them from getting comfortable. She can block/alter shots, and she is an assertive and physical rebounder. Offensively, she looks most comfortable with her back to the basket. She does have decent hands, solid footwork, and she keeps the ball high and finishes above defenders. I really like her motor and effort in transition changing directions. If she can add a face-up game at 15-feet, look for elite small colleges to show interest.

I promise you, I think Mooresville just has a factory that pumps out solid ballplayers all about the same size, skill, and ability. Abby is a “typical” Mooresville kid. She has a solid to strong, athletic frame, she is a really nice athlete in most directions, and she plays with a good motor. She has a versatile skillset and can do a variety of things for her teams. She can handle the ball and run offense on occasion, she’s a good perimeter shooter when she gets her feet set and can get rhythm, but she’s also strong and athletic enough to attack the basket and score through contact or find open teammates. Defensively, she will battle smaller forwards, wings and most guards as well.

Kearsten is a really nice, versatile wing prospect who really stepped up this Summer. She has a long, wiry strong, and athletic build to her. She moves well in most directions, and she has a quick first step North/South. She proved her worth over the Summer as being a dangerous catch-and-shoot kid from behind the arc, but she was also solid putting it on the floor and attacking the basket. I do think she needs a little work on making her handle a bit more dynamic, but she is a nice scorer at all three levels. She defended mostly small forwards, so if she can prove to defend guards off the bounce a little more effectively, I think she’ll get recruited as more of an off-guard herself.

I had seen Gloria’s stats pop up a few times when searching through MaxPreps, but with her playing on a homeschooled team and not playing any grassroots basketball, it was difficult to catch up with her. Fortunately, she attended a showcase event I was at back in August and played pretty well. She has a wiry strong frame and is a solid North/South athlete. She is a shooter/scorer by nature, and that is obvious almost immediately when you begin watching her. She has a quick first step, she creates space fairly well, and she can shoot/score it at all three levels. She plays a little point for her homeschool team, but she’ll need to be a bit more dynamic off the bounce at the next level.

Kendall was listed as a 2023 on her travel team’s roster all Summer, so a couple of weeks ago I actually incorporated her with those rankings and articles. I’ve now come to learn that she is a 2022 and have added her here where I felt it was appropriate. Kendall is a water-bug with very good speed and quickness. She is a playmaker who does a lot off the bounce. She can get into the defense and cause problems, she can score with a number of runners or floaters, but she also finds open teammates. Defensively, I think she can be a high-level on-ball defender because of her quickness and tenacity. I think she is a competitor, and she could help Marian a lot in 2020-2021 if she can show a bit more discipline offensively and learn how to change speeds better, not always playing at 100 mph.
