Last season Marshall finished top of the conference with a 10-0. A fast paced super athletic squad that won some huge games last season, Marshall has a similar squad that is set to do it again. The team features two All Conference selections along with First Team and Player of the Year winner Anna Lutz Anna Lutz 6'1" | PF Marshall | 2021 State WI . Laura Nickel Laura Nickel 6'0" | PF Marshall | 2021 State WI earned First Team and Mya Andrews Mya Andrews 5'5" | PG Marshall | 2021 WI earned second team. All three athletes will be back for their senior seasons. Marshall also will look to Abby Ward for more impact minutes for her junior season. She earned Honorable Mention last season.
Belleville, New Glarus and Cambridge all finished with a 5-5 conference record. Jaylnn Benson, New Glarus standout and First Team selection will return for her senior season. Mayah Holzhuerter of Cambridge will return for her junior season. She finished fifth in the conference for scoring with 12.6 points per game. Belleville will return two Second Team selections in Callie Smith and Ava Foley. Callie Smith led the Capitol- South in rebounds with 11.5 per game.
Here a few players posed to make an impact this season
Anna Lutz Anna Lutz 6'1" | PF Marshall | 2021 State WI | Marshall | 6’1 PF | Senior
Lutz is committed to UW Milwaukee. She averaged 23 points per game and led all scorers in the conference. She is super physical with an ability to score at all levels, Lutz fills the box score with her effort and grit. She grabbed 9.4 rebounds per game and had 3.2 blocks per game. In a win against Poynette last season, Lutz dropped a season-high 32 points while shooting 63% from the floor. She isn’t afraid of range and is comfortable shooting from behind the arc. She made 22 three point baskets last season.
Jaylynn Benson Jaylynn Benson 5'7" | CG New Glares | 2021 State WI | New Glarus | 5’7 G | Senior
A highly skilled guard who can excel at either the lead guard or scoring guard positions, Benson brings it all to the court. She’s instinctive defensively and she can guard both guard positions while also being able to play on and off the ball. Offensively she’s exceptional as she handles the ball well, sees the floor, and she has a lethal perimeter stroke from beyond the arc. Mix in intangibles, toughness, and a team first mentality and it’s easy to see her trending upward significantly over the next few months.
Mayah Holzhueter | Cambridge | 5’10 F | Junior
An ultra-quick efficient prospect for her size with an explosive first step and an ability to score from all levels, Holzhueter is one to know. She averaged 12.6 points per game last season along with 8.5 rebounds and 21 blocks on the season. Her handles combined with her ability to shoot opens a lot of things for her creatively and she excels at times in that capacity. She’s most comfortable finishing at the glass or mid range. In a win against Palmyra-Eagle, Holzhueter finished with 31 points. Mostly off of offensive rebounds and finishing with power over the defender. However, she did attempt and knock down a few three pointers as well. Look for her to do that more this season.
Callie Smith | Belleville | 6’0 F | Junior
Smith is a nightmare matchup for defenses that have to prepare for her. She possesses a unique ability to consistently make plays on the court whether it is coming off screens and hitting mid range jump shots or putting the ball on the floor and musceling by defenders. She finished the season averaging 8.4 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. She seems to always know when it’s time to make something happen. Her length and confidence give her the ability to get her shot off against most defenders her size. While her ball handling skills are still improving, she does possess the skill set to put the ball on the floor with either hand or drive to the basket.
Julia Asik | Waterloo | 5’8 G | Sophomore
A two way standout early in her career, Asik started to really gain confidence late last season. She has an excellent quick release and it’s virtually automatic when she’s locked in. Last season she averaged 11.2 points per game and made 36 three point baskets. A tough instinctive guard, she is an excellent perimeter threat with an ability to score from beyond the arc or off the bounce at the mid range level when the opportunity is there. In a game against Clinton, Asik finished with 21 points.
