Continue ReadingI’ve always gone against the grain and that means from shaving to just accepting foolishness and reporting nonsense just because someone in power said it, so I decided to really do something different and that’s travel 5 hours, one way, to see a game because one thing I know, talent is everywhere and I definitely saw some next-level talent at Crystal City who hosted Somerset. I must admit a good friend of mine, Jesse Torres with San Antonio Islanders had mentioned Karinna Ortiz, a very talented junior and after seeing her video, I sort of knew what was coming
Crystal City HS
2022
Karinna Ortiz-5’8 PG
Ortiz just makes those around her better, she can shoot, mid to long-range, take defenders off the dribble or just find ways to put the ball in the basket but her savviness, her BB-IQ, her desire to compete just captivated me but she sees the floor very well and she handles the ball smoothly and effortlessly and just makes things look easy and that’s under pressure
Kiara Rioz-5’5 SG
Rioz plays within herself yet is an explosive scorer, especially from long range as she went on a long ball frenzy early in the game. Not only was her barrage of three pointers impressive, but it was also her ability to “catch and shoot” the long ball being tightly guarded but she also could put it on the floor and attack the basket as well as create her shot but she too, could see the floor
2023/24
Ivanna Flores-5’8 SF
Flores played the passing lane well, love her upside as well as fellow sophomores Reyna Martinez and Relyla Rios who did a good job of just making plays and filling in blanks but freshman Lindsey Bosquez came into the game and immediately made an impact battling on the boards.
Somerset HS
2021
Kendall Dominguez-5’8 F
Dominguez was impressive, she was a BEAST on the inside, scored almost at will and after seeing her name, I knew I had seen her, S/O to Alamo City Hoops Girls Elite Combine
Leandra Antopia-5’4 G
Antopia came in dropping the long ball and never stopped, I quit writing at 5 because that’s how many hours I drove yet some of the ones she dropped felt like they were from Houston but creating with a quick release was exciting
2022
Tse Morgan-6’0 P
Morgan has toned up, saw her multiple times during club season, #TJShowcase as well as Alamo City Hoops Girls Elite Combine, so she’s stronger, she’s more fluid not only with her shot but running the floor and she is doing a good job on the boards as well as scoring inside
Mia Godina-5’0 PG
Godina saw the floor well, handles the ball under pressure, and just understood how to control the tempo as well as when to push it but she also played the passing lane well
Irelyn Woods-5’10 P & Marisol Jiminez-5’7 P
Both Woods and Jiminez were strong inside, they finished and rebounded
2023
Vangie Hernandez-5’5 SF
Hernandez understood how to get hers in the flow and her shooting from BTA was definitely flowing as she showed she could shoot it
