Special S/O to both Lauren Cook-5’7 sophomore, whose shot was clicking from mid to long and gave the “and one” of the day as well as junior Jordan Jones-6’0 who looked really good playing the passing lane and attacking the basket. Westside is still missing a twin, Makayla Evans-5’7 combo, out with a knee injury yet her sister Kaitlynn Evans-5’7 combo, showed explosiveness attacking the rim as well as defending, something the Wolves have been known for since the pack opened up play. Special S/O to Trenece Charles for taking the “charge of the day” but the 5’5 senior brought the heat on defense all-day while fellow seniors Kamryn Kizzine-5’6 and Carolyn Seif-5’5 hit big buckets to try and ignite runs while another senior, Peyton Grogan-5’6 did a good job boxing out, playing the passing lane and seeing the floor, as well as attacking the rim but here are the standouts
Westside
Khady Samb-6’0 PF
Samb enters her junior year being tabbed by me as one of the most improved players in the area and I’m somewhat mesmerized by the transformation as she showed me glimpses at different showcases but this is just something to see and it shows the work she has put in because her midrange is deadly, she is shooting the long ball and she is attacking the rim and doing all of these things with confidence, which is something you can’t teach and when you factor in she’s doing all of this coming into her most important summer, with her size, watch out
Shanna Petty-5’10 PG/SG
Petty is one of the top defenders in the area, probably the state so seeing her apply heat baseline to baseline has always been a treat and if you were fortunate enough to catch her on the live streams, like me I’m sure you were sweating like I was because she turns up the temperature yet the thermometer has exploded as she starts off the season averaging a double-double in her senior year and just came off of a 22 point explosion the previous night. Petty’s offense combined with her defense puts her in the mix
Kortlin Allen-5’7 SG
Allen does quite a few things well as she attacks the basket strongly by creating her shot and make the defense guess what she’s about to do, her first step helps her make the decision on the jumper or attacking the rim where she finishes strongly, after contact, but she also applies that heat on the defensive end and did a really good job doing one of the things I love to see, play the passing lane so let me put an asterisk by the sophomore’s name because her upside has me zoned in
St Agnes
Sammy Meyers-5’10 SG/SF
Meyers continues to show me she can shoot the ball, from mid to long-range, and remember I love seeing big guards that can shoot the ball but more importantly, so do college coaches and her accuracy, her ability to create her shot, as well as her shot selection, are all next-level ready from the senior
Ella Smith-5’7 PG/SG
Smith mixed it up nicely as she ran the team, controlled the tempo by either pushing it or settling the team down in the half-court setting, either way, she saw the floor, got the ball to the right people as well as scored herself, from mid to long as well as off the dribble a the junior continues to shine
Natalie Messa-5’9 SG/SF
Messa was impressive against Friendswood shooting the ball yet to show me it wasn’t a mirage, the senior went completely off creating her shot off the dribble to either attack the rim, she also finished with contact or shoot the midrange jumper, which was consistent, yet her form and quick release on the long ball had the senior making the nets sizzle
