Finishing off my tri-county preseason list is Miami-Dade. The area has some quality prospects playing for prestigious programs. Looking into my selections, you are going to notice the length this team has in the front court. I would be confident in this group zoning off the middle of the paint and guarding shots on the outside. In addition, it also has some prolific scorers that can do damage on all three levels of the floor.
Let’s jump right into the list..
[player_tooltip player_id="91580" first="Riana" last="Doctor"] - Gulliver Prep
2022 [player_tooltip player_id="91580" first="Riana" last="Doctor"] put together a nice sophomore campaign for the Raiders. The 6-foot forward averaged 12.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game on available stats. These numbers are quite impressive considering Gulliver Prep had two quality seniors that combined to average over 36 points per game. Doctor has an inside-out game that will make her a tough match-up against any opponent. I would expect Doctor to average over 15 points per game and grab eight to ten boards minimum.
[player_tooltip player_id="91494" first="Andrea" last="Daley"] - Miami Country Day
2021 forward [player_tooltip player_id="91494" first="Andrea" last="Daley"] is one of the best players in South Florida. The George Washington commit averaged 12.8 points and 8.1 rebounds for the Spartans last season. Moreover, her 6-foot length amassed 4.2 rebounds alone on the offensive glass. Daley has improved her mid-range game and ability to put the ball on the floor. This is a scary notion for opponents as she already shot over 60% from the field last season. She should be the most athletic player on the court in most situations. Look for her to have a big senior season for Miami Country Day.
[player_tooltip player_id="91539" first="Kayla" last="Clark"] - Miami Central
Few players are more underrated than 2021 [player_tooltip player_id="91539" first="Kayla" last="Clark"]. The 6-foot-2 center led the Rockets in points (14.2 PPG) and rebounds (9.8 RPG) last season as a junior. Clark has an array of moves she can use with her back to the basket. Moreover, she can utilize her scoring ability with her face up game on her opponent. This damaging effect should wear on her defender over the course of a game. Clark posted 18 games in double-figures and another ten on the glass. The Rockets have a strong D-1 player that should only improve as a senior.
[player_tooltip player_id="91509" first="Jaiyah" last="Harris-Smith"] - Miami Norland
Harris-Smith was a major catalyst behind the Vikings 22-7 overall record from a season ago. The 5-foot-5 guard averaged a team-best 16.0 points, 5.2 assists and 3.2 steals per game last season for Norland. In addition, Harris-Smith is an excellent rebounder at her position. Out of 26 recorded games, Harris-Smith recorded six or more rebounds in 14 contests. You are looking at an all-around playmaker with strong decision-making ability. Harris-Smith will be counted on as the Vikings look to replace three key seniors
[player_tooltip player_id="91510" first="Lindsey" last="Weingard"] - Dr. Krop
2021 [player_tooltip player_id="91510" first="Lindsey" last="Weingard"] is a prolific combo guard and team captain for the Lightning. Weingard averaged 18.5 points, 4.3 assists and 3.5 steals last season as a junior. Moreover, she eclipsed 20 or more points in nine games. Weingard joins fellow classmate [player_tooltip player_id="91521" first="Lauryn" last="Hornstein"] to lead a talented Dr. Krop group. The pair combined for nearly 30 points per game. With that scoring firepower, the Lightning should improve upon its 14-12 record from a season ago.
