The Hebron Hawks hosted and defeated the Frisco Reedy Lions 54-46 on Tuesday, and the Melissa Cardinals lost a home contest to the McKinney North Bulldogs 61-47 on Friday.
Here are seven standout guard prospects from this past week’s action:
Amaria Fields Amaria Fields 6'1" | SG McKinney North | 2021 State TX | 2021 | 6’1” Shooting Guard | McKinney North HS – Of the two games and four teams that I saw play in Week 1, Fields would be my pick for player of the week. The senior two guard has a tall and lean build and is a fearless shooter from the field. She had it going from mid-range on Friday night while also being virtually unstoppable when attacking the basket in transition. Fields dominated the boards too, adding eight rebounds to her game-high 28 points.
Wendy Clemons | 2021 | 5’6” Point Guard | Melissa HS – Clemons has a tremendous feel for the game. She runs the show for the Cardinals, operating as her team’s primary ball handler and orchestrating the offense. The Arkansas Tech commit is a great playmaker at the one spot. She finds creative windows to pass through and is an accurate distributor of the basketball who can deliver dimes with either hand. In addition, Clemons is solid from behind the arc, forcing defenders to respect her as a shooter. The senior floor general accounted for 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists vs. McKinney North.
Zosia Rej | 2021 | 5’8” Shooting Guard | Hebron HS – Rej is an off-guard who can shoot the three-ball. Despite exiting the game late in the second quarter after appearing to injure her leg, she returned midway through the third and hit a pair of big-time threes that helped her team regain momentum and pull away in the second half. The senior guard chipped in on defense as well with a couple of steals and a block.
Adrianna McCoy | 2022 | Combo Guard | Frisco Reedy HS – McCoy is an elusive ball handler. She has no issue weaving her way through traffic and getting to the hoop for layups. The junior guard is great at utilizing euro steps to get to the basket and is a crafty finisher with good body control off the drive. She has a nice-looking floater in her arsenal too. McCoy also shoots the three ball well and possesses deep range from behind the arc. Furthermore, she is a disruptive defender at the other end. The 2022 prospect is a two-way player who can score from all three levels.
Yarnia Evans | 2022 | 5’7” Point Guard | McKinney North HS – Evans is a capable scorer, but she doesn’t have to light it up from the field to impact games. She showed off her broad range of skills by accounting for six points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals on Friday night. She plays with good pace and is a crafty finisher in transition. The junior point guard is a terrific playmaker as well with a knack for dropping off passes to open teammates in the paint following dribble penetration.
Olivia Flory | 2023 | 5’4” Combo Guard | Frisco Reedy HS – Flory did a little bit of everything vs. Hebron. She hit a three from the catch, finished through contact and converted some three-point plays at the free throw line, made some gorgeous feeds, and played relentless defense throughout the contest. I think I like her best as a point guard because she made some really impressive passes on Tuesday.
Paris Bradley Paris Bradley 5'10" | SF Hebron | 2024 State TX | 2024 | 5’10” Combo Guard | Hebron HS – Bradley is a natural facilitator. Her court vision is outstanding and her ability to make every pass really caught my eye. The IQ and decision-making ability she displayed vs. Frisco Reedy was remarkable to see from a freshman. The Hebron guard had a phenomenal night, finding open teammates for assists with ease in a variety of situations. Additionally, Bradley is a sticky defender and an extremely productive defensive rebounder. She would be my pick for freshman of the week.
