Woodland East Conference: Preview
Last season the Woodland East conference was led by South Milwaukee. The team finished 11-1 in conference play. The team returns most of their standouts while they lost senior and First Team All Conference selection [player_tooltip player_id="132460" first="Kayla" last="Tierney"]. South Milwaukee returns juniors Hailey and [player_tooltip player_id="204136" first="Mia" last="Johnson"] who earned second team all conference as well as Honorable Mention junior Allie Spalhoz.
Whitnall came in second last season with a 10-2 record. A squad consisting of mostly seniors, Whitnall does return six players who will take on bigger roles this season. Paige Mukahirin will step in and contribute big minutes. She averaged 4.3 points per game during her junior season.
Brown Deer continues to rise as their talent remains high and they keep a deep roster full of girls who can play big minutes. While they lost Player of The Year and Winona State guard Mattie Schimenz, second team all conference player [player_tooltip player_id="132383" first="Jordana" last="Reisma"] will return as a junior. She’s made big noise this summer as she has added multiple Division 1 offers and put up huge numbers in AAU tournaments and leagues around the state. She will be joined by senior forward Grace Gleason who added 5.4 points last season and knocked down 26 three point baskets. Junior point guard Brooklyn Ragland will play a big role this season as she will most likely be looked at to run the offense and be a floor general for Brown Deer. Ragland averaged 4.8 points per game as a sophomore.
Take a look at a few players posed to make an impact in the Woodland East Conference
[player_tooltip player_id="202242" first="Alexis" last="McNack"] | Milwaukee Lutheran | 5’9 PG | Junior
A First Team All Conference selection as a junior, McNack is one of the most dynamic point guards in her class. Last season she led her team in scoring with 20 points per game and made over 20 three point baskets. She can fill a stat sheet and more often than not makes the highlight play. McNack’s ability to take over a game on the offensive end is almost scary- she can score from anywhere. Last season she dropped 37 points against New Berlin West. The game comes so naturally to McNack and her stock rose tremendously this summer. She competed in so many events and was consistently doing whatever she could to develop and improve her game. She will certainly be a candidate for Player of the Year.
[player_tooltip player_id="156070" first="Amayiah" last="Neilon"] | Greenfield | 5’6 PG | Sophomore
Neilon stepped on the floor as a freshman for Greenfield last season and immediately made an impact. A young prospect, Neilon shocked everyone with her ability to lead the team, remain composed and make good decisions on both ends. The risk that she takes offensively only proves how high her ceiling is- she understands the game and how to create it for herself. She averaged 17.2 points per game, leading her team. A three way scorer, Neilon athletic ability and quickness make her very difficult to defend. A defensive standout as well, the Greenfield standout added 5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game last season.
[player_tooltip player_id="204124" first="Hailey" last="Johnson"] | South Milwaukee | 5’10 F | Junior
Johnson led her team in both scoring and rebounding last season. She scored 11.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. She consistently contributed each night. In a game against a tough Milwaukee Hamilton squad, Johnson scored a season-high 20 points while shooting 81% from the floor. Johnson has really become so dominant and a menace in the paint. She does so well sealing her plater and uses her lower body to create space. Johnson is strong with the ball and patient before attacking the rim.
[player_tooltip player_id="132383" first="Jordana" last="Reisma"] | Brown Deer | 6’2 F | 6’2
Reisma is posed to make a huge impact for Brown Deer this season and will lead her team in both scoring and rebounding. As mentioned she’s had an exceptional summer and has improved so many aspects of her game. Her ceiling is tremendously high. She is a crafty forward who while already being elite, can add so much more to her game. She can really play positions 2-5 as she gets more comfortable with the ball- in high school play I can definitely see her making this happen. She’s phenomenal transition play and gets up and down the court well. As a sophomore, Reisma averaged 13 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Reisma also added 104 blocks last season and was so dominant in the paint.
Jamera Bean | Milwaukee Lutheran | 5’3 PG | Junior
Bean is a player that every team should look out for as she has an impressive amount of upside. Bean competed in the Prep Girls Hoops Top 250 event and the Prep Girls Hoops Fall Exclusive- and completely showed out. She’s a talented guard who can compete at a high level consistently. Last season she averaged 13 points per game and played nicely alongside McNack. She has great court vision and moves well without the ball. She can facilitate and find her open teammate on a dime.
Sarah Hansen | Cudahy | 5’4 G | Senior
Hansen finished first on her squad in scoring and had a very impressive junior season. She averaged 14.8 points per game. Offensively she moves well without the ball and is patient before attacking the rim. Her mid range game is developed and she uses her quickness to fake and fly by her defenders. Most confident when attacking the rim, Hansen can also knock down the perimeter basket if you test her. Hansen has great pace on the floor and is comfortable pushing the ball in transition action.
