Continue ReadingI’m scanning my brain on some of the talented players I saw over the past season, didn’t I say put yourself in front of me, it’s a science just not rocket science because I don’t go by these deepfake videos, doctored stats, or other foolishness because I’m not a novice at this and my consistency over two decades should be enough yet for many, it isn’t but one of the surprise teams this season shouldn’t be a surprise because I have many of them ranked on here, again, I have to see it and here are some of the standouts and although I haven’t seen Sadie Swift, the junior has evidently been doing damage on the inside as their lone loss has been to UIL 5A #1 Cedar Park, is there a road trip in the horizon?
Shanel Reid Shanel Reid 5'10" | SF Austin | 2023 State TX -5’10 PG sophomore
Reid simply left me speechless the multiple times I saw her elevating over defenders and dropping the long ball yet she can create her shot under pressure and score multiple ways including taking defenders off the dribble and finishing strongly, with either hand after contact. Her defense, rebounding, and playing the passing lane all got my attention and kept it because she kept showing it and she’s off to a good start, toying with triple-doubles this season
Aubrey Reid Aubrey Reid 5'10" | PF Austin | 2023 State TX -5’11 CG sophomore
Reid, yep their twins, does so many things other than scoring and rebounding that create problems and can change momentum but yes, she can knock the midrange, yes she attacks and finishes with ease, both she and her sister have college-ready bodies but she does things instinctively, like diving for loose balls or understanding when to switch, how to trap as well as take away the baseline/sideline but she has good hands and can handle the ball under pressure
Jade Clack-6’1 PF sophomore
Clack will be added, loved her size at Pass Tha Ball Select 40 in Round Rock, then her agility but when the bright lights came on, I knew she would be added to my update coming up. She’s long and athletic, that’s the base I start with on many players, she plays the passing lane, she attacks relentlessly from, well wherever she wants and she battles on the inside, not to leave out she defends and has a soft touch facing the basket
Senaida Barrientos Senaida Barrientos 5'7" | SG Smithsville | 2023 State TX -5’7 SG sophomore
Barrientos was given an assist from her club coach Ashley Roberts prior to me seeing her at the Alamo City Showcase where she was injured, I asked could she continue and she said “oh I’m coming back” and when she came in, back to back threes sold me. She’s poised, she can create her shot, mid to long-range, as well as off the dribble and she doesn’t force it so whether she’s scoring in the flow or knocking it down in the clutch, she’s ready
Kemah Shaw Kemah Shaw 5'8" | CG Austin | 2024 State TX -5’5 CG freshman
Shaw has been on my radar for quite some time and she falls into that “not an ordinary freshman” category because I ex[pected big things from her simply because she has the skillset, the athleticism but even more importantly, she understands the game and loves the pressure, one more time, that was not a charge, that was an and-one but let me add one more huge intangible, she plays with passion and that too, is something you cannot teach
