Cedar Park was one of my must-see squads last season and the team I had pegged to win Region 3 and represent the region in the state tournament however College Station pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season defeating them 56-54 in OT in the regional final. Losing both [player_tooltip player_id="100076" first="Nicole" last="Leff"] (Texas State) and [player_tooltip player_id="137422" first="Hannah" last="Wheeler"] (Incarnate Word) would be a blow to most squads yet the Timberwolves are still howling as they are not only ranked #1 in UIL 5A, their lone loss is to star-studded Cibolo Steele and they avenged last season’s loss to College Station and here are some of the reasons
[player_tooltip player_id="136335" first="Alisa" last="Knight"]-5’10 SF senior
Knight is explosive off the dribble as well as in the open court and her acrobatic finishes after contact places her in the "highlight waiting to happen" category but she’s also long and athletic, plays the passing lane very well, and has shown she can consistently drop the mid to long-range and because she elevates on her jumper, she gets it off with ease
Sarah Estupian-5’4 PG senior
Estupian is a heady point guard that understands how to control the tempo, handles the ball under pressure, and sees the floor yet she can create her shot and knock it down from mid to long-range as well as take defenders off of the dribble
[player_tooltip player_id="96925" first="Shelby" last="Hayes"]-6’2 C junior
Hayes has good hands and footwork, she rebounds strongly on both ends of the court and ignites the break with pinpoint outlet passes however watching her around the basket finishing multiple ways with either hand, this includes players hanging on her, makes her pretty hard to handle when you factor in her size. She also scores facing the basket
Elaine Knight-5’11 PF junior
King fills in many blanks for the squad, she can not only defend but she rebounds on both ends of the court and one of her biggest strengths is that she can get hers in the flow and do things that may not necessarily show up on a score or stat sheet
[player_tooltip player_id="134028" first="Gisella" last="Maul"]-5’10 PG sophomore
Maul is long and athletic, has unlimited range yet she’s stronger this season and shows it by attacking and finishing after contact as well as her rebounding against taller opponents and speaking of rebounding, her ballhandling enables her to go coast to coast to either finish, hit the stop and pop or get the ball to her teammates for shots
[player_tooltip player_id="96143" first="Molly" last="Ly"]-5’4 PG sophomore
Ly is multi-talented and just goes at the defender to either attack the basket, she finishes all types of ways because of her body control and she has a nice jumper that she creates under pressure and can knock it down from mid to long-range. Ly can not only score, her crisp passes through traffic on the money accounts for easy attempts and she applies pressure on the defensive end
