Below is a list of guards who are making noise and proving that their stocks are rising soon into the season. Each of these guards have shown glimpses of how elite they will be the rest of the season and beyond. This list consists of guards in the Cloverbelt- East and Cloverbelt- West conferences.
Cloverbelt- East: Colby, Columbus Catholic, Gilman, Grandton, Greenwood, Loyal, Neillsville, Owen- Withee, Spencer.
Cloverbelt- West: Altoona, Cadott, Fall Creek, McDonnell Central, Osseo- Fairchild, Regis, Standley- Boyd, Thorp.
Heavyn Kind | Spencer | 5’7 Junior
The junior is currently third in scoring in the Cloverbelt- East conference. She’s shown versatility and consistency so far this season. Kind is averaging nearly 15 points per game. She’s a guard who can finish strong in the lane but has shown off her impressive shooting stroke as well. Kind has incredible speed on the floor and utilizes her poised dribbling to control the ball and create her own shot. In a win over Athens, Kind finished with 20 points for her team.
Teagan Becker | Stanley- Boyd | 5’8 Sophomore
The sophomore is about as versatile as they come in this conference and has proven how impactful she can be on both ends of the floor. She’s been a consistent offensive player this season and is certainly a spark plug that could take over at any moment. She is averaging 9 points per game. She has a knack for the offensive game and is great at finishing through contact. She has a great ability to read the defender as well which has been essential for her to create on shot within the offense. A solid rebounder as well, Becker sees a lot of action off offensive boards. In a game against Osseo- Fairchild, Becker finished with 14 points for Stanley- Boyd.
Makenna Rohrscheib | Regis | 5’9 Junior
Rohrscheib has really developed and improved so many of her skills coming into this season. It’s been exciting to see her become the scoring machine that she seems so comfortable with being. The Regis standout is second in scoring in the Cloverbelt West conference. She has a great feel for the game and impressive movement to get herself open within the offense. She’s definitely a three level scorer and could arguably be a post player in this conference, but the ceiling is high for her ability as a guard. She has fantastic length and seems confident handling the ball under pressure. She is averaging 19 points per game for Regis. In a game against Fall Creek, Rohrschieb finished with 30 points for her team.
Alyssa Graski | Owen- Withee | 5’8 Junior
Graski has been an impact athlete for her team and has played key minutes in some close games this season. She’s definitely had to step into a more leadership position this season and has done well. Graski has shown glimpses of how effective she can be on offense and has had to learn to find her shot more for herself within the offense. She is averaging 7 points per game. Graski does the little things right for her team which will be important for trying to get her team wins this season.
Mesa Rasmussen | Greenwood | 5’7 Junior
Another junior who has been an impact athlete for their team this season. Rasmussen has great athleticism and a smart feel for the game. He shot selection is impressive and she has a surprisingly dominant play inside the lane as well. Rasmussen finishes extremely well against contact and has perfected being able to draw the foul. An offensive threat for Greenwood, Rasmussen is averaging 12 points per game. In a win over Owen- Withee she finished with 15 points.
Averie Varsho | Altoona | 5’6 Senior
The senior has shown great consistency this season and has been the leading guard for her Altoona squad. She’s shown great play making ability and does very well finding her teammates open. Varsho is a three point specialist and will knock it down with range. She is averaging 12 points per game this season and scored 17 points in a close game against Cadott. She has also made 18 three point baskets in the first 7 games played.
Kristin Strey | Granton | 5’6 Senior
The Granton standout has been the player to watch this season as she continues to put on impressive performance after performance. She’s a scrappy guard who is a threat on both ends of the floor. A work horse on defense, Strey has tremendous footwork and ability to cause turnovers and pressure the entire length of the floor. An offensive standout as well, Strey is leading the conference in scoring with 16 points per game. She has a quick release and can create space and a shot for herself. In a game against Colby, Strey finished with 22 points for Granton.
Lauryn Deetz | McDonell Central | 5’4 Junior
Deetz is an exceptional lead point guard with so much upside to her game. She’s an exciting and energetic guard that thrives in the leadership role. She is a fantastic shot creator in the midrange. She is confident knocking it down behind the arc as well. She utilizes a hard pound dribble into the losing phase of her jumper to speed up her release which is very impressive and exciting to watch. She is a confident player that knows her ability. She is averaging nearly 12 points per game. In a victory over Stanley- Boyd, Deetz finished with 14 points.
Celine Wuethrich | Greenwood | 5’4 Senior
Wuethrich’ stock is continuing to rise as she’s really become quite the floor general for this team and shown glimpses of elite play making ability. She’s an up tempo guard with well developed handles and IQ. Her energy on the floor makes her teammates better and her on-court vision is a key to this team’s success. She can score the ball too which makes her such a dynamic player on the court. She is averaging nearly 10 points per game. Wuethrich finished with 11 points in a win over Owen= Withee.
