The Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Mustangs 11-0 in the second quarter after being close during the first quarter. After Argyle’s run, Grapevine could never bounce back. Argyle coaching showed as the Lady Eagles continuously ran their offense until they found an open shot. The team was in constant motion as they moved to get open during in-bound plays. At some points during the game you could not tell if Grapevine was running an offense at all. The Lady Mustangs did a good job communicating and staying tough with their interior defense. They competed until the end of the game after falling down by as much as 19 points. Argyle is the five-time 4A Girls Basketball State Champions, so they have a target on their back whenever they play an opponent. Here comes my analysis of the top performers from this game.
2021 5-9 SG and PG Bailey Timmons- Argyle, TX
This senior showed her leadership last night by exhibiting endless energy throughout the game which rubbed off on teammates. It was clearly her night, leading all scorers with 31 points. She was a strong defender with quick hands. Timmons was clearly the best player on both sides of the court because she was very active on defense like I said above, made three pointers whenever she was left open, and made good decisions while playing point guard on offense that led to her or a teammate having an open shot.
2023 5-10 G Ashlin Crabtree- Argyle, TX
Crabtree used her high basketball IQ while on the court to get open by moving without the ball, being a versatile player to her team by being able to play multiple positions, and knowing where to be so that she could get her or a teammates rebound after they shot. She showed her aggressiveness by hustling after loose balls, playing tenacious defense (doing some the dirty work on both sides of the court), and by going up strong against the defense so that she could get to the free throw line where she was very accurate.
2024 5-10 F Samantha Bacon- Argyle, TX
This under classmen used her size to set good screens to get her teammates open and to position herself to get rebounds. She also did some of the dirty work on both sides of the court just like her teammate, Ashlin Crabtree did.
2024 5-8 G Gabby Campbell- Argyle, TX
Campbell used her speed to be a good defender with quick hands, to get in the right position to rebound her teammates shots, and to get open for a shot. She made a three pointer or two last night and could be one of the better shooters for the Lady Eagles when she is an upper classman.
2021 5-8 SG, PG, SF Kennadi Archibald- Grapevine, TX
Archibald showed she was a team player by driving to the basket to get an open layup when she could, moving around on defense and getting deflections when she could, getting assists, moving without the ball to get an open shot, protecting the rim by blocking the other teams shots when she had to, having good hands to grab loose balls quickly, running the offense, knowing when to be aggressive and foul the other team, and knowing how to break the press with her teammates. She was the best player on her team because she played wherever her coach told her too and always found the ball instead of the ball finding her.
2022 SG Olivia Hays- Grapevine, TX
The Junior showed her talent by making the majority of three pointers and other shots when she was open and by being in the right place in transition to get an open layup. She showed her want-to by playing good defense where she got deflections when she could and by moving without the ball to get an open shot.
