Hopefully, despite the pandemic, high school season will soon be tipping off. In anticipation, let’s look at some of the top senior rim protectors this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="27995" first="Lola" last="Chambers"] (PF, West Bloomfield)
Chambers is such a high IQ defender. She understands the defensive end and what it takes to stop an opponent.
[player_tooltip player_id="138351" first="Megan" last="Crow"] (C, Gladstone)
With Crow’s height and length, going through or over top are non-options. She’s an absolute game changer with her skill set on D.
[player_tooltip player_id="138329" first="Emily" last="Dixon"] (PF, Chippewa Valley)
Dixon has a huge upside on the defensive end as a prospect. When she walls up, offensive players have a really tough time finding the rim.
[player_tooltip player_id="147738" first="Evie" last="Doezema"] (C, Grand Rapids Christian)
Doezema is a prime time defender. If you need a big stop late in the game, Doezema is the kind of player you want. She never takes a defensive posession off.
[player_tooltip player_id="27970" first="AJ" last="Ediger"] (PF, Hamilton)
Ediger gets down the floor so quick that opponents rarely pick up easy buckets. She understands help defense and has incrediblt quick feet in the paint.
[player_tooltip player_id="138307" first="Mya" last="Hiram"] (PF, Onsted)
Hiram is underrated sometimes as a defender. She uses her strength to dominate under the rim. Hiram can control where and when her opponent moves under the rim.
[player_tooltip player_id="175937" first="Krystina" last="Kasson"] (C, Kalamazoo Hackett)
Watch out for Kasson this season. She’s going to have a huge impact, and I believe that will be exemplified on the defensive end. Teams will absolutely have to be aware of where she is on every possession.
[player_tooltip player_id="138323" first="Nicole" last="Kamin"] (PF, Escanaba)
Kamin plays really good vertical defense, making the other team take the longest path to the rim. She moves well horizontally in the paint.
[player_tooltip player_id="138364" first="Jakayra" last="McCarty"] (PF, Detroit King)
McCarty could be the top post defender in the PSL this season. All the athletic tools are there for her to have a huge season on the defensive end.
[player_tooltip player_id="27968" first="Alana" last="Micheaux"] (C, Wayne Memorial)
When Micheaux steps on the court, she let’s it be known that she owns the lane. She excels in a physical game in the interior, which bodes well for her at the next level.
[player_tooltip player_id="138308" first="Kendall" last="Robertson"] (PF, Lake Orion)
Robertson is, in my opinion, underrated at the defensive end. She doesn’t need the flash and flare on D, she just gets good old fashioned stops.
[player_tooltip player_id="138298" first="Ally" last="VanTimmeren"] (PF, Jenison)
VanTimmeren might have the highest defensive basketball IQ in the state of Michigan. She knows where to be and when to be there at all times. She’ll have an instant impact defensively at the next level.
[player_tooltip player_id="28017" first="Shannon" last="Wheeler"] (PF, Detroit Renaissance)
Wheeler is the primary defensive post prescience on one of the most talented teams in Michigan. Her versatility and wide range of skills allows her to protect the rim with the best of them.
