Memorial
Riley McCloskey Riley McCloskey 5'3" | PG Memorial | 2023 State TX -5’5 PG
McCloskey continues to amaze me game after game at running the team, handling the pressure, and controlling the tempo, and her numerous passes to the right person throughout the season, club ball and camps included, solidify her a sone of the top sophomore point guards in Texas but last night, her attack and dish was working as well as her clutch 3 and fouled on the 3 for three free throws but on top of everything, her poise under pressure, you can’t rattle her and that will only elevate everything else
Abigail Tomaski Abigail Tomaski 6'0" | SG Memorial | 2023 State TX -6’0 SG
Tomaski has also made strides, she’s a big guard that can shoot and her transformation over the club season had me expecting big things and yes, I’ve gotten them as she can easily get her shot off by either creating it under pressure or elevating and using her length to consistently knock it down but that’s all fine and dandy because ONE PLAY she did just told me a whole lot as she attacked and finished strong with her left hand, after contact, that was a big-time move
Mackenzie McKown-6’0 SG
McKown is another big guard that can shoot and the talented junior hit numerous big shots in what was a close game from start to finish. She also rebounded, on both ends of the court, and her battling for those rebounds, as well as loose balls, played a role in their win but her biggest play may have been “the block” in the fourth quarter as Katy Taylor was making a run, that was one of the momentum changers in the game
Morgan Matheny-5’5 G
Matheny was just making plays all game and her senior leadership also came in handy as she attacked the rim several times, played solid defense but made on the nights defensive top plays when she elevated over taller players to come away with a huge rebound down the stretch
Katy Taylor
Micah Elegores-5’5 PG
Elegores is one of the areas top sophomore point guards, I saw that when she was an 8th grader, this is why the search bars are there and my saying back then she could see the floor and score with either hand was on point, pun intended yet she controls the tempo and is vocal as well under control on both ends of the floor but her pass-first mentality works well with her squad as she gets everyone involved
Sheridan Shaw-5’6 CG
Shaw attacked the rim relentlessly off the top and her ability to handle the ball and dish while attacking the rim as well as taking turns running plays with Elegores puts her in the combo slot because she has a nice pull-up jumper, she can create it under pressure but she handles that same pressure with ease, her go-ahead basket at the 6-minute mark, not to mention numerous steals, as well as free throws, helped keep them in striking distance
Henley Beisert-5’7 SG
Beisert, like Shaw, is a senior and she also does a good job of creating her shot, under pressure, as well as playing within herself and understanding how to get hers “in the flow”. She attacks the rim, has good form on her shot, and played some tough defense but she also did several things that you just don’t see on the stat sheets, like setting solid picks as well as understanding how to switch but her playing the passing lane definitely was a yes
