Prep Girls Hoops was in attendance in the Palmetto State’s “Soda City” to take in the festivities. There was plenty of great basketball played and the atmosphere for the games that occurred was nothing short of outstanding.
Without further adieu, here is a look at some of SC’s senior, junior and sophomore talent that soared like a Skyhawk the final week of the year in Columbia.
Imani Wyatt Imani Wyatt 5'9" | PF Camden | 2021 State SC – 2021 – Camden High School – There has been plenty said and written about this talented senior and not only within the sport of basketball in South Carolina. On the court, Wyatt has great court awareness which allows her to read offenses and stifle them to put herself in position to go the other way. She was an early tone-setter for the Bulldogs as they jumped out to a 15-11 lead after the first quarter. In spite of fouling out, she made a big difference for Natalie Norris’ Camden team as she tallied 11 points in the Bulldogs’ 73-67 victory over Legacy Early College. Wyatt was last year’s Camden Female Athlete of the Year and has also competed in track and field as well as tennis.
Kamya Hatten Kamya Hatten 6'0" | SF Southside | 2023 State SC – 2023 – Legacy Early College – Hatten makes things happen for the Lions. Listed right around six feet, her height alone provides a built-in advantage for Legacy Early College. A transfer from Westside High, she brings a toughness to Latrese Davis’ Lions team and an attitude of never giving up on a play. Hatten drew more than her fair share of contact as she made her way to the free throw line a lot against Camden. Of her 11 points she scored, only two were from the field as she shot a robust 7-8 from the stripe. That is the type of foul shooting that will come in handy later in the season in close games.
Kimyah Foggie Kimyah Foggie 5'10" | SF Legacy Early College | 2023 State SC – 2023 – Legacy Early College – In close games, it is all about which players do the little things that do not always show up on a stat sheet. Foggie did some of those little things – such as drain important free throws when the Lions needed them. She finished the game with only five points, but three of those came in the second half and all of them were at the free throw line. Foggie has also played travel ball with Lady Team South Carolina. Foggie herself has also competed in other sports outside of basketball as she previously had a stint as a gymnast.
