It is highly improbable to cover everyone each year on the PGH sites, however we do like to make note of several young ladies who may or may not get the attention they deserve based on their quality play. In this article, I have focused on Sophomores and Freshmen from Class 2A schools who are currently uncommitted. I tried to find five such young ladies who stand out as talents, but who might not be well-known on the statewide level at this time.

Layla had a somewhat inconsistent Freshman season, playing in eight games, then missing nearly all of December and early January, before returning to play in six more games at the end of the year. Despite all of that, she still managed to average 20.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.6 steals per game, while shooting an impressive 45% from 3-point range (39-87). Layla is extremely long, fluidly athletic, and somewhat smooth. She can put it on the floor and attack off the bounce, but that soft jump-shot is too good to pass up. She does still need to get stronger and be a little more dynamic off the bounce, but she has noticeable talent and a well-rounded skillset.

Brooklyn grew up watching two older sisters play at Bedford North Lawrence, but when it came time for her to pick a high school, she chose the small school environment of Mitchell. She has now found herself as a Varsity regular, and even a go-to player at times, through a year-plus of action. Brooklyn is tough-nosed, strong, and likes to play with physicality. She plays more of a power forward role for her high school team, but throughout this Summer/Fall she was seen mostly on the perimeter, attacking off the bounce, and knocking down the occasional jumper outside. Her versatility and ability to play inside-out will go a long way at the next level.

Ashlee could have a nice college future in terms of basketball, but she is also a really nice volleyball recruit, so she has spent a lot of her offseason time focused on that sport’s grassroots events. Ashlee has great size, strength, and some length also. She runs the floor well North/South, she has good hands, solid footwork, and a soft touch that could eventually extend to the 3-point line. She is just so overwhelming at the high school level because of her size, that she probably needs to play against more players her size if she ever decided to play basketball in college. As a Freshman, she averaged 10.5 points and 10.4 rebounds on a talented Blue Devil team.

Amber probably had as good of a Summer/Fall as anyone in Indiana’s 2023 class. She is extremely long, still somewhat thin, but fluidly athletic and bouncy. She plays with a tremendous motor, and despite being slight of frame, she is the first one on the floor for loose balls, she seeks contact defensively and in box-out situations, plus she will chase down rebounds far away from her area. She is a quick second-jumper and gets a lot of rebounds because of that, plus she affects a lot of shots defensively with her length. Amber showed some touch as well to about 17-feet, and the potential to play on the perimeter a lot more as her game continues to grow.

After putting together a really nice grassroots season, I was excited to see what Alli could do on a Class 2A schedule. Carroll unfortunately had to wait until 11/21 to get their season started due to COVID related issues, but through four games they are 3-1 with a big matchup at Tipton tonight. Alli is averaging 18.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 4.0 steals in those games, and she’s coming off of back-to-back 26 and 27-point outings. She is a dynamic guard who can make plays off the bounce with her quickness, plus she’s an accurate shooter with range well beyond the 3-point line. She is definitely entertaining to watch, as she frustrates defenses each possession.
