Atascocita
Blake Mattews-5’5 PG-JR
Matthews did what I love to see, just take over a game and she did it on both ends. She creates her shot and has a quick release, she impressed me with that watching her play as a sophomore yet her mindset has become that of “you can’t stop me” and she showed that handling the ball with ease under pressure, throwing pinpoint passes to teammates for assists and applying heat on defense, one play she elevated over everyone on the sideline to save the ball on one end and sped down to finish the layup on another but her shooting from mid to long-range definitely kept changing the momentum
Kori Fenner-5’6 SG-JR
Fenner is athletic, played some solid defense, and grabbed some rebounds in the first half but she also showed she could create her shot for the mid-range jumper or attack the rim. In the second half, that was expanded as she dropped back to back threes to grab the lead and start a run
Robin Whitehead-5’10 SF
Whitehead’s athleticism was in full form as she sliced her way to the basket early and finished acrobatically numerous times but she also showed the pull-up jumper which she created while being defended as well as applying heat on the defensive end. Her rebounding was key, not to mention her doing what I love to see, playing the passing lane
Dobie
Gwendlyn McGrew Gwendlyn McGrew 6'0" | CG Pasadena Memorial | 2024 State TX -6’1 G/F
McGrew is showing those “breakout” signs because what’s coming is terrorizing and that crossover she showed is even better than when I gave it an A+ over the club season. She has a college-ready body right now, she has BCS offers, right now and she’s learning to play multiple positions at this level against seasoned veterans so when I tell you what’s going to happen, listen because watching her rebound and go full speed hitting teammates on the money is just part of her game, her pull-up jumper is just part of her game and of course, the multiple moves attacking the rim are just part of her game
Janae Tucker Janae Tucker 5'6" | CG Pearland | 2023 State TX -5’7 PG
Tucker falls into the how time flies category when I caught her with a talented young team that was dismantled for the illusion of greener pastures but I commented on her floater back then, she had already shown that, as well as poise, and those, are key elements to the formula. Fast forward to now, watching her control the tempo as well as set defenders up nicely to take off the dribble was good, the jumper was also created under pressure and the upside is still grabbing at me
