Monday we released our December rankings update for the Class of 2024. Since it coincides with the midpoint of the 2020-2021 high school season, I felt like it was a great opportunity to highlight five young ladies who have gotten off to nice starts to begin their careers. Below are five wings who are quickly gaining the respect of their teammates and opponents as the season turns toward the home stretch.

When you first see Aniyah play, the talent is noticeable. She is extremely long, very fluid and athletic, and she has good bounce to her as well. She plays sort of a point forward role, as she can make plays in transition and create offense for herself or others. As this season has unfolded, her confidence has grown, and over her last four games she is averaging 15.5 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. As she continues to tighten her all-around skillset and develop her understanding of situational basketball, she has the physical talent to really take off. On the season, Aniyah is averaging 12.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game for the 5-4 Lady Indians.

I raved about Emma following her play at a number of tournaments and showcases throughout the Summer and Fall, but I was curious to see how that would translate at Zionsville with quite a bit of experience returning on the wing and along the frontline. Needless to say, she has definitely had an impact, and she continues to play with that outstanding motor and toughness. Emma is playing about 15 minutes per game for the 8-3 Eagles, and she is making the most of that opportunity, averaging 5.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game in a lineup with two players scoring in the high teens. Emma is the type of kid you win games with, so look for her role to continue to grow.

Sophia is another Freshman getting quite an opportunity, contributing to a loaded, Senior-laden team. Memorial moved to 8-0 last night (12/23), with a huge win over Washington. The Tigers are currently ranked #10 in the state in the latest IBCA poll, and they could move up more if they play well next week at the Hall of Fame Tournament. Sophia has found herself as a part of the rotation, and the long and athletic point forward is averaging 3.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game for the Tigers. With her explosiveness and ability to make plays off the bounce, look for her to slide into the starting lineup next season and be one of their top scorers, following the graduation of four 2021 starters, and seven 2021s in total.

in a previous article about rising 2024 guards, and Scarlett has been every bit as impressive this season. She too is an exceptional 3-point shooter, and I think she caught some of their early-season opponents off-guard a bit, continuing to back up and bury deep jumpers as teams extended their defense. Scarlett has good height, wiry strength, and she’s a nice North/South athlete with length. If you don’t stick to her, she’ll hurt you outside, and if you play her too tight, she has the ability to go by you. So far this season, she is averaging 10.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, with 32 made 3-pointers for the 11-0 and #11 ranked Franklin Grizzly Cubs.

Kendall has been a really nice addition to the experienced Owls, as she is third in scoring, third in rebounding, second in assists, and first in steals for Seymour so far this season. Kendall has good size, some strength, and she’s a solid all-around athlete. She acts as a primary ball-handler for the Owls and is a solid point forward type of player. What I think I like most about her is that she’s just solid in all areas of the game, and she plays with a really nice motor and quiet toughness. As she continues to become more dynamic, both skillfully and athletically, it should really help her game long-term. Kendall is averaging 8.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game for Seymour.
