Here are five standout underclassmen from this past week’s action:
Amarachi Kimpson Amarachi Kimpson 5'7" | PG Little Elm | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 5’8” Point Guard | Little Elm HS – Kimpson has the ability to absolutely dominate games, and I’ve seen her do it before. However, Prosper refused to let the star sophomore single-handedly beat them, forcing the ball out of her hands as much as possible. Kimpson was still productive and found ways to score from all three levels within the flow of the offense. She trusted her teammates to help her out and was efficient with all of her touches, finishing the night with 18 points. The No. 4 ranked prospect in our PGH Texas 2023 rankings remains one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the state in her second season as a varsity starter.
Jules LaMendola Jules LaMendola 5'10" | SF Coppell | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 6’0” Small Forward | Coppell HS – LaMendola operates as a point forward for Coppell. She has a diverse offensive skillset. The 6-foot sophomore put together a solid all-around performance vs. Hebron. She displayed good decision making as a facilitator, scored with pull-up jumpers from mid-range, and contributed on the defensive glass. Additionally, LaMendola did a great job playing the passing lanes on defense, accounting for three steals Friday night.
Saiya Patel | 2023 | 5’1” Point Guard | Coppell HS – Patel sparked Coppell’s late-game comeback attempt with a pair of steals that both led to breakaway layups in transition. She showed good speed in the open court, bursting past defenders in transition. She may be undersized, but she plays with a ton of heart and is skilled enough to combat the size disadvantage she faces. On defense, the sophomore guard is sticky off the ball and possesses quick hands, ending the game with four steals.
Paris Bradley Paris Bradley 5'10" | SF Hebron | 2024 State TX | 2024 | 5’9” Point Guard | Hebron HS – Bradley had a tremendous game as a facilitator when I got to see her back in Week 1. She looked great as a passer once again vs. Coppell, finding shooters with ease and zipping passes all over the place, but she also showed of her scoring ability this time around. The freshman floor general got it done from all three levels, knocking down a spot-up three, drilling stop-and-pop mid-range shots in transition, and finishing at the basket. With that said, Bradley still understands that her job as a point guard is to pass first, and that is what impressed me most on Friday.
Madison Martin Madison Martin 5'7" | PG State TX | 2024 | 5’7” Point Guard | Little Elm HS – Martin possesses blazing speed and exceptional quickness. She handles the ball well and is terrific at navigating the floor on offense. The 2024 guard prospect thrives at playing the passing lanes and excels at turning defense into offense. She was both active and disruptive on D vs. Prosper, constantly finding ways to create turnovers at that end of the court. She is incredibly poised for a freshman. Martin and Kimpson are going to be a deadly backcourt duo for years to come.
