Devynn Warns Announces College Destination

Recruitment for the 2021 class was fairly difficult for many without having a true Spring/Summer season to play in front of college coaches due to the Covid-19 pandemic. While the pandemic did not negate a handful of previously heavily recruited players from Washington, there were many left scrambling. One of those talented players especially left scrambling was 5’7 guard [player_tooltip player_id="82957" first="Devynn" last="Warns"] of Liberty High School. A couple years ago Warns suffered a knee tear that kept her out for over a year and missed her sophomore season of high school basketball and had to sit out a Spring/Summer. When she was finally back on the court in her junior year she was able to prove her worth, leading Liberty to the state tourney, while garnering MVP of the 2A KingCo League. Just when she was getting back comfortable and happy on the court, the pandemic hits and there goes her final Spring/Summer of travel basketball. Only further demoralizing was the postponement and strong chance of her senior high school season being cancelled. The recruitment process was a roller coaster and imaginably difficult but some outstanding news broke to social media when Warns posted that she has committed to Eastern Washington University. EWU is trending towards an extremely Washington heavy roster and Warns’ commitment furthers this roster and recruitment trend for the Lay Eagles. On the court, [player_tooltip player_id="82957" first="Devynn" last="Warns"] is tough as nails, physical and plays with a lot of confidence. She attended the PGH Washington Showcase this last Fall and showed her defensive toughness and outside shooting ability. She will step right on campus and go right at whoever is initially ahead of her on the depth chart. All in all, Warns’s situation provides a glimpse of hope for other 2021’s and 2022’s who will be impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic even more.
