GMC: Under-the-Radar Prospects to Remember
GMC basketball is one of the best is the state. This conference is full of top teams and prospects that are considered elite. When looking at the rosters, there are plenty of prospects that have flown under-the-radar. That will change this season as they begin their breakout campaigns.
Neysa Aguilar (2023) | Middlesex
Aguilar had a productive freshman season for a talented Middlesex squad. Players like Brianna Montajes and Kristen Yonker have gained much of the attention of Aguilar is difficult to ignore. She scored upwards of 10 points per contest and was a true scorer at all three levels. This production will continue to grow over the years.
Kristina Akselsen (2021) | Calvary Christian
Calvary Christian will have many of their leading scorers back this season. Akselsen is among those returning. As a junior, Akselsen led the team in both assists and steals. She can fill up the stat sheet in many ways. Offensively, her game is polished but there is even more room to grow. That is something we will see this season.
Rosie Regan (2021) | Monroe
Monroe will be losing Madison Carey Madison Carey 5'6" | SG Monroe | 2020 State NJ from their team last season. Regan will be one of the players to step up in a difficult conference. She led the team in rebounding and was a force on the defensive end. Regan was a dominant player in the post and that will continue on the offensive end this season.
Jessica Cooper (2023) | St. Thomas Aquinas
The Trojans have built an elite program in the GMC over the years. Players like Emma Boslet Emma Boslet 5'10" | PG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2020 State NJ and Kelsey Ransom are a reason why. In 2021, Cooper will take the next step, along with Akyia Baker. Cooper showed her skills on both ends of the floor as a freshman. Her game was beyond her years which shows that the Trojans have their next star.
Alexa Castro (2023) | Dunellen
Castro broke out a bit as a freshman but did not scratch the surface of her potential. She showed an ability to knock down a three and defend the opposing team’s best player. She also has an advanced ability to rebound on both ends.
Hena Thakkar (2022) | Woodbridge Academy
Thakkar was one of the elite underclassmen for Woodbridge Academy a year ago. The future is bright for the program and it is led by Thakkar’s ability to score the ball at a high rate.
Payton Alcorn (2023) | Old Bridge
Old Bridge is another successful program in the conference. Alcorn knocked down 45 three’s as a freshman. That number will continue to rise during her years at the school.
