I caught the Lady Lions in Oklahoma first and they seem to be almost everywhere I am but one thing I know, Oklahoma is still OK and San Antonio continues to have some of the top up and coming players in Texas, okay that’s two things but here are 6 players for you
Khloe Smith (OK Lady Lions)
Smith definitely was impressive for a number of reasons when I first saw her at #WinterJam, long and athletic is the first but I saw what’s coming from this young lady because of how she approaches the game, and with her mindset and desire, she’s going to be in the mix. She attacks strongly and finishes after contact, I like her body control as well as her playing the passing lane but that defense on the interior also stands out
Amelia McGee (OK Lady Lions)
McGee is going to be a “highlight waiting to happen” kind of player because she’s already finishing acrobatically and under control in the 6th grade, archive what I say, and come back down the road. Her reactions as well as doing things instinctively, a couple of things I use when I evaluate, especially at the younger ages are definitely great assets but so is the way she plays the passing lane
Emma Morgan (OK Lady Lions)
Morgan is solid on the inside, understands how to get positioning, and actually rebounds well against taller players but that falls into her “thinking the game” as well as desire. She also showed she could finish, as well as defend but what is just as impressive is she plays within herself and doesn’t force anything, and understands how to contribute multiple ways
Kennedy Hieskil (SA Aces 2027)
Hieskil is “heady” and does several things you won’t see on a stat or score sheet yet she contributes in a number of ways. With that being said, she can score and handle the ball but she also does a good job of seeing the floor. I speak about doing things in the flow and playing within yourself, these are very good traits to start off with at a young age, love her upside because when you can think the game, good things are coming
Strawberry Bledsoe (SA Aces (2027)
Bledsoe has the right first name because “the fruit was ripe for the picking” as she picked that ball out of the air numerous times by playing the passing lane, yes I’m pretty good at my “play on words” game yet she’s better at playing on the floor and when you have this type of athleticism and it’s under control, how can I not be excited about her upside, especially when she attacks with ease
Nisha Norman (SA Aces 2027)
Norman does something I love seeing younger players do and that’s “understand how to create their shot”, especially under pressure, yes she does that but that midrange looks nice, good form and release as well as her putting it on the floor and attacking with a deceptive first step but here we go, she plays the passing lane and with her speed and ballhandling, that’s going to be something to deal with
