He looked at the numerous negatives, I gave him the positives and reminded him what she was doing “at that stage” so I said that to reaffirm the misguided who may me question me about this so here are some other youngsters that stood out
Justice Woods (OK Lady Lions 6th Grade)
Woods has the uncanny knack to make things happen even when she’s playing with the older squad but her poise on the court just left me somewhat speechless the first time I saw her going against players at an Individual Showcase. She understands the game, she can run a team and at this stage, that’s a mouthful yet she also can score, mid to long-range which she creates under pressure and she can take defenders off the dribble with ease but watching her make those pinpoint passes on the money tells me what’s coming
Camille Mason (OK Lady Lions 6th Grade)
Mason is long and athletic, she understands how to attack the rim from multiple angles but her court sense is ahead of her years because she can handle the ball in the open court, this plays into her playing the passing lane which sets up scoring opportunities because she has good speed while dribbling, acronym SWB, speed with ball, is always by her name
Lyric Gillespie (OK Lady Lions 6th Grade)
Gilespie with the serious look of someone that is just about to bring it before she even steps on the court. She too has SWB plus she has very good body control and watching her attack and finish after contact, sometimes acrobatically is something to see but don’t blink because she can score by creating her shot from midrange as well as long-range but alas, her defense and rebounding definitely add to her variety of tools
Arielle Williams (SA Aces 2027)
Williams has something going because she’s long and athletic, wait, she has a lot going but before I throw any hashtags, her athleticism at this stage is going to be hard to handle as I look into that crystal ball. She can rebound and go coast to coast for baskets, handling the ball with ease under pressure is a given, she can attack and finish after contact in the half-court set but she understands how to not only create contact but displays good body control
Nia McBride (SA Aces 2027)
McBride also pulled out the “long and athletic” and she understands how to score off the dribble and creating her shot under pressure to attack and finish strongly is just the beginning as she also showed she could face the basket and score. She plays defense, baseline to baseline, or “on ball” in the halfcourt and she does something I love to see, she plays the passing lane
