I emphasize over and over, wins are irrelevant at what I do, I just want to see the skill-set, and because I’m not a novice, here are some of the standouts. I’ll add ’24 Shunteria Davis to the next story since this was the first high school game I caught her in
Andrea Ramirez-5’10 F (Lutheran North) senior
Ramirez pounds on the inside, she doesn’t back down from contact, either giving or receiving and she did a good job finishing on the inside, this includes after contact but just watching her battle for everything was a treat for me because I love to see the #THROWBACK stuff and players with the mindset of “you won’t outwork me” because this is something you can’t teach
Victoria Noack-5’7 G (Lutheran North) senior
Noack did a good job of creating her shot and getting where she wanted to be to shoot it. She has shown the numerous times I’ve caught her this season that she can score from outside this includes the mid to long-range, and she also understands how to take the defender off the dribble but she added something else in this game, some on-ball defense that helped create turnovers
Jade Miller Jade Miller 5'6" | PG Manvel | 2022 State TX -5’6 G (Lutheran North) junior
Miller has always been one of those players that just brought it, as a 5th grader playing up and scoring digits including multiple long-range threes until now being tagged as one of the best defensive guards in her class, I have watched the progression and seeing her control the tempo and see the floor was good, yeah the defense was there as well but her poise and being able to play freely was evident in the first high school game I’ve caught her here. She scored in a variety of ways but she also got teammates involved, she will be my PLAYER SPOTLIGHT later today
Chidera Okororie (International Leadership School of Texas)
Okororie gave me a very good first impression because she too falls into that #THROWBACK type of player that just goes after everything. Her energy level remained high and she continued to battle even as the score became out of reach and one thing I love is players that bring it to the very end no matter which way the game is going. She’s a powerful rebounder, she finished strongly and she showed good interior defense
Nya Graves (International Leadership School of Texas)
Graves is “long and athletic” and I call that the base so she did quite a few things that caught my eye. First, she understands how to create her shot and showed she could shoot the midrange, she also attacked the basket strongly and she definitely fought for rebounds on both ends of the court. She has good timing for blocks, deflecting or altering shots, her length helps as well and she plays the passing lane
