Arvada West hosted Boulder in a hard-fought contest that resulted in a 51-39 win for the Wildcats on Friday. The Wildcats got off to a strong start in the contest’s opening minutes, finishing the first quarter up 12-5 on the Panthers. Boulder came out swinging in the second quarter and put up 11 points to the Wildcats’ nine. Both teams battled during the third and headed into the fourth quarter with Boulder down six. The Wildcats were able to stave off a Panthers comeback during the game's final minutes to improve their record to 2-0 on the season. [player_tooltip player_id="145406" first="Amanda" last="Neff"] (2022) started the game out strong and finished with a team-high of 14 points and eight rebounds in addition to her two assists and one block. She accounted for half of her team’s first-quarter points and drained a three-pointer in the third and fourth quarter. Sydney Tridner (2022) ended with 11 points for the Wildcats, six of which were scored in the final quarter, four rebounds, and two blocks. [caption id="attachment_231994" align="alignright" width="300"] [player_tooltip player_id="117723" first="Jasmyn" last="Williams"][/caption][player_tooltip player_id="117723" first="Jasmyn" last="Williams"] (2022) controlled the pace for the Wildcats while locking down the perimeter. Defensively, she finished with five rebounds, four steals, and a block while putting up four points and three assists on offense. Other Arvada West players to know: Alexis Folks | 2021 | 8 pts, 2 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl [player_tooltip player_id="118728" first="Brooke" last="Meeks"] | 2023 | 1 pts, 3 reb, 3 ast, 3 stl [player_tooltip player_id="116797" first="Madison" last="Manson"] | 2021 | 5 pts, 4 reb, 1 stl The Panthers may not have gotten the outcome they wanted, but they showed real strength during the game. Ella Bartsch (2022) was one of the more dominant players on the court Friday night. She came alive in the second quarter and never looked back. She finished the contest with a game-high of 16 points to go along with her seven rebounds, two steals, and one assist. When asked about Bartsch’s standout performance, head coach Emily Van Patten had this to say, “she’s always been a strong player, but she’s developed so much in this past year. She’s that kid that we can rely on when we need someone big and strong inside. I’m so proud of Ella and how far she’s come… she brings it every night!” [player_tooltip player_id="116813" first="Abbie" last="Gillach"] (2021) made her season debut Friday night, finishing with 11 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Gillach was one of Boulder’s star players last season, and her return gives the Panthers a significant dose of athleticism, hustle, and leadership. [caption id="attachment_232027" align="alignright" width="300"] [player_tooltip player_id="116813" first="Abbie" last="Gillach"][/caption]Other Boulder players to know: Karina Ontiveros | 2022 | 2 pts, 6 reb, 3 ast Mandiza Krueger | 2022 | 4 pts, 4 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl Marisa Weygandt | 2021 | 2 pts, 4 reb, 3 ast Looking ahead: Arvada West will be looking to remain undefeated when they travel to Bear Creek (0-2) on Monday for their first league competition. Boulder will be looking to get back on track as they host Broomfield (0-2) in their first league match on Friday.
