Colorado’s long-awaited prep basketball season is back in full swing, and the first week has been nothing short of entertaining.
A very young Centaurus team opened their season with a 46-21 home win over Standley Lake this past Tuesday. Both teams showed up eager to compete on the hardwood, regardless of the added challenges that the new COVID-19 mask protocols have introduced.
In a contest that showcased a total of ten underclassmen, it should come as no surprise that there were quite a few takeaways that are worthy of highlighting.
Seven of the ten underclass players are Centaurus sophomores, six of whom are returning for their second year of varsity play. [player_tooltip player_id="118724" first="Laura" last="Gensert"] led the Warriors in scoring with seven points, while Sam Sterritt and Sophia Dale finished with six points each. Sterritt led the team in rebounds (6), while Dale, Alexa Lorton, and Ava Patik all finished with five apiece. Fellow sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="118732" first="Ann" last="Spence"] led the team with six assists and finished second with five steals. [player_tooltip player_id="116814" first="Julia" last="Mischke"] was one of two seniors to play for the Warriors. She led her team in steals (6) and finished with five points and three rebounds.

Senior teammate Cameron Lucas put up eight points for the Gators, finishing 5-of-6 from the field.
