PGH continues that coverage in this article, profiling the top forwards to watch this season in the Red Division of the Greater Middlesex Conference.
Rosie Regan – Senior: Monroe
Regan has impressed through Monroe’s first two games of the 2021 season, averaging 9.0 PPG, 9.0 RPG & 1.0 BPG. She came into this season as the top returning rebounder and shot-blocker, and she’s already showing a lot of growth in the position. She averaged 5.03 RPG as a junior, so already, she’s making big strides on the boards. Regan is a physical forward, so expect her to use her frame to give Monroe a large defensive advantage in the paint. Already 2-0 this season, Monroe will keep relying on Regan to dominate.
Sophia Jorgenson – Senior: East Brunswick
Jorgenson has a fantastic season opener, putting up a 12-point, 18-rebound double-double with two blocks and two steals. The senior was a bench presence on East Brunswick last season, but she’s already solidified her role as a starter through one game, showing that she can man the middle and make it a living nightmare for opponents to attempt to drive into the lane. Not many expected this jump from Jorgenson, so keep an eye out on her to see if she can keep up this through the season, but this being her final high school season, she’s gonna leave it all out on the floor.
Karly Wittenbauer – Junior: J.P. Stevens
Wittenbauer is going to be a significant forward presence for J.P. Stevens this season as space has opened up for her with Megan Duffy graduating last spring. Wittenbauer returns as the team’s best scoring, rebounding and defensive option as the returning team leader in blocks and steals. Her sophomore season was a breakout one, averaging 10.78 PPG, but what will take center stage is her defense. She’s a great shot-blocker and is aggressive, playing up on opponents. The junior, if she wasn’t a superstar last season, will mold into one in 2021.
Carla Seyfarth – Junior: South Brunswick
Seyfarth averaged around 9.0 PPG & RPG last season for South Brunswick, so having nearly put up double-double numbers every night, she has crazy double-double potential in 2021. Her game is well-rounded as someone who finds her way into the lane and who can create space for her shots as well as box out defenders for rebounds. However, don’t underestimate her defense as she’s arguably the best on-ball defender on her team. This season will be a statement year for Seyfarth as she cements herself in the conversation of the best forwards in the state.
Tianna Whitney Tianna Whitney 5'9" | SF Edison | 2023 State NJ – Sophomore: Edison
Whitney hasn’t played the first two games of Edison’s season due to precautionary measures, but she was nothing short of incredible as a freshman, averaging 14.84 PPG, 8.61 RPG, 4.04 BPG & 1.58 SPG. Ghelsey Go has done a fantastic job in her place, scoring 31 points Thursday night in a close 60-59 win over Piscataway, but once Whitney is cleared to come back on the floor, she’s going to take over and should form a fantastic tandem with Go. Watch that develop during the 2021 season.
