Every player who steps onto the hardwood has a role to play in order to help give their team the best opportunity to be victorious. It goes without saying that each team strives to outscore their opponents; however, the team that controls the boards can determine the outcome of the game.
With the 2020-21 season is officially starting this coming week, now is the perfect time to highlight ten players who will be entering this season as the top returning rebounders from last season.
<b>1. Lanai Anderson | Edison | 2021</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Anderson is returning as the leader in total rebounds from last season. She finished her junior campaign with a total of 311 rebounds and 18 double-doubles. She averaged 13.9 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.3 steals, two assists, and 1.1 blocks per game last season. Anderson’s ability to control the paint last year will make her a player to keep an eye out for this coming season.</span>
<b>2. [player_tooltip player_id="116811" first="Kendyl" last="Kirkwood"] | Fleming | 2021</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Kirkwood ended her junior season with a total of 295 rebounds, 437 points, 17 double-doubles, and one triple-double. She averaged 18.2 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.9 steals, 2.3 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game, solidifying herself as one of her class's top prospects.</span>
<b>3. [player_tooltip player_id="95167" first="Lauren" last="Betts"] | Grandview | 2022</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Betts, the recent Stanford commit, isn’t just the number one ranked 2022 player in the state; she is the number one nationally ranked player in her class, according to Prep Girls Hoops. She completed her sophomore season with a total of 290 rebounds and 463 points, making her a top ten returning rebounder and scorer. She finished last season with an average of 17.8 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.9 blocks, and 2.2 assists. Betts recorded 15 double-doubles while helping her team reach the 5A state championship game.</span>
<b>4. Izzy Swanson | Liberty Common | 2021</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Swanson recorded a total of 278 rebounds, nine double-doubles, and one triple-double over her junior season. She also finished the season with an average of 8.8 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 2.8 steals per game. Swanson helped her team reach the first round of the playoffs last season, making her a player to look out for during her senior season.</span>
<b>5. Griffin Greenwood | Lewis-Palmer | 2021</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Greenwood’s 275 total rebounds were accompanied by eight double-doubles during her junior campaign. She finished last season with an average of 10.3 points, 11 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. Greenwood will be looking to help her team return to the playoffs and avenge their second-round knockout from last year. </span>
<b>6. Sidney Folkenberg | Mile High Academy | 2023</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Folkenberg had an impressive high school debut last year, recording 274 total rebounds and nine double-doubles. She finished the season averaging 7.9 points, 13.9 rebounds, 3.2 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game. Folkenberg is a young player with an extremely high ceiling, making her a must-watch player whenever she steps onto the court.</span>
<b>7. [player_tooltip player_id="95218" first="Brooke" last="Murrell"] | Thomas Jefferson | 2023</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Murrell is another player coming off on a phenomenal freshman year where she put up a total of 273 rebounds and 15 double-doubles. She also completed the season averaging 14.3 points, 11.4 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and one steal per game. During her debut season, Murrell’s performance earned her the number three spot in the PGH CO 2023 rankings. Do not sleep on this player.</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Arreola completed her electrifying sophomore season with 271 total rebounds, one triple-double, and 14 double-doubles. PGH CO’s 32nd ranked player in the class of 2022 finished the season with an average of 18.3 points, 12.9 rebounds, 5.2 steals, and 2.6 assists. Keep an eye out for Arreola as she and her teammates fight for a return appearance in the postseason this year.</span>
<b>9. Reagan Beers | Valor Christian | 2022</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Beers is PGH CO’s 2nd ranked player in her class and finished last season with a total of 262 rebounds, 403 points, and 16 double-doubles. She also completed her sophomore season with an average of 15.5 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.1 blocks, 1.8 steals, and 1.6 assists per game. Beers is considered one of the top players in the state for a reason. Adding her to the top of any watchlist should be a no-brainer.</span>
<b>10. Savannah Brown | Heritage Christian | 2021</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Brown ended her junior campaign with a recorded total of 255 rebounds and six double-doubles. She finished the season with an average of 7.9 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. Be on the lookout for Brown as she and the Eagles look to repeat a phenomenal regular season this year.</span>
