Wednesday was the second day of the high school girls basketball season in New Jersey, and there were some great performance and matchups throughout the state. Let’s take a look at the winners from the day’s action. <strong>Manasquan: </strong>In arguably the game of the day, Manasquan defeated St. Rose, 55-52, in a battle of top-15 teams in the state. Four players finished in double figures for Manasquan, led by Mary Elizabeth Donnelly, who had 15 points and 12 rebounds in a double-double effort. [player_tooltip player_id="155468" first="Brooke" last="Hollawell"] added 14 points, Rylyn Orlando finished with 13 points and Dorothy Loffredo totaled 11 points and six rebounds. Manasquan opened the season with a huge victory in a battle of two of the Shore Conference’s elite teams. <strong>Abby Antognoli, St. Rose: </strong>Despite coming up short and seeing her game-tying attempt rim out on the final possession, Antognoli was great for St. Rose out of Belmar. She finished with a game-high 26 points, knocking down five 3-pointers. Other St. Rose standouts included Maureen Stapleton (10 points, 8 rebounds) and Rosie Scognamiglio (11 points). <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="155551" first="Bella" last="Vito"], Montville: </strong>Montville opened the year with a commanding 57-18 victory over Mountain Lakes on Wednesday, racing out to a 20-3 lead. Vito finished with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Dani Vito added 13 points and nine rebounds and [player_tooltip player_id="159079" first="Grace" last="Kowalski"] finished with 13 points, six steals and five assists. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="155447" first="Ally" last="Sweeney"], Sparta: </strong>Sweeney led Sparta with 18 points, six steals, six assists and five rebounds in the team’s 59-19 win over Morristown on Wednesday night. <strong>Charlotte Milanesi, Veritas Christian: </strong>Milanesi paced Veritas Christian with 24 points, eight steals and six assists in the team’s 57-50 win over Atlantic Christian on Wednesday. <strong>Taylor Hill, Passaic Valley: </strong>Hill led all scorers with 32 points in Passaic Valley’s 46-36 victory over West Milford. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="159100" first="Maddie" last="Gore"], Newton: </strong>Gore, one of Newton’s top players, opened the season in a major way – finishing with 22 points, 18 rebounds, six steals and four blocks in the team’s 41-38 victory over Wallkill Valley. <strong>Kamiyah Napier, Newark East Side: </strong>Napier totaled 20 points, five rebounds, five assists, four steals and a block in Newark East Side’s 56-31 victory over Barringer Wednesday. <strong>Liyah Allen, Sinai Christian: </strong>Allen had 21 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks in Sinai Christian’s 66-54 loss to Stuart Day. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="134617" first="Nia" last="Melvin"], Stuart Day: </strong>Melvin had 20 points, four rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocks for Stuart Day in its 66-54 win over Sinai Christian. <strong>Cortland McBarron, Rumson-Fair Haven: </strong>McBarron recorded a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds in Rumson-Fair Haven’s 61-50 win over Red Bank Regional.
