The 2020-21 High School season has been interesting to say the least. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the country in a number of ways and unfortunately for the class of 2021 has deeply impacted the typical recruiting process and scholarship opportunities available for the current Senior class. For the next few weeks we will take a look at some of the states top available players.
# 69 [player_tooltip player_id="145104" first="Carla" last="Jean"] (North Miami / Miami Suns) 5’5 Guard
Jean is another deadly 3-point shooter from South Florida that will launch it from anywhere on the court and is basically in her shooting range once she crosses half court. She is a high-volume shooter who averages 15+ shots per game and is averaging 11.2 points per game. The 5’5 lefty guard can play the one and the two but is better playing off the ball and knocking down perimeter shots off penetrate and kick. Her presence on the court allows the offense to really space the floor and puts stress on the opposing teams defense as she is capable of getting hot and scoring in bunches!
# 70 [player_tooltip player_id="91546" first="Gabriela" last="Bendeck"] (Miami Christian) 5’4 Guard
Bendeck has been doing it all for Miami Christian this year. She is a 5’4 savvy point guard who is very dangerous with the ball in her hands. She has good handle, plays well in the open court and in transition and is a solid passer. She is averaging 15.3 points per game for Miami Christian leading them to a 8-4 regular season record. She uses her body well and changes speed and has deceptive quickness to get into the interior of opposing defenses and attack the rim and get to the free throw line. Her biggest weakness at this point is her 3-point shooting (5/26 for 19% on season) and her speed. She is a mid-major D1 player in the right system if she improves in these two areas. Hopefully a solid junior college option will open up for her in this crazy COVID-19 recruiting year.
# 72 [player_tooltip player_id="91513" first="Erica" last="Turral"] (Florida A&M / FGB) 5’6 Guard
Unfortunately, in a very crazy and unique 2020-21 basketball season, Florida A&M has only been able to play 7 games going 5-2. [player_tooltip player_id="91513" first="Erica" last="Turral"] is the twin sister of Stony Brook signee [player_tooltip player_id="91480" first="Erin" last="Turral"]. Erica and 2022 teammate Ameari Logan have been playing the roles of sidekick alongside Erin who is averaging 31 points per game. Erica mainly gets it done from the free throw line and at the rim. She is a small, strong combo guard who is a solid mid-range shooter and finishes fairly well in traffic.

# 87 [player_tooltip player_id="91501" first="Mya" last="Lewis"] (Hollywood Hills / Florida Lady Huskies) 5’6 Guard
It has been a unique season for everyone but most of all for those players and teams in South Florida and the Hollywood Hills season is the prime example as the team did not play any regular season games in November and December and played just 5 regular season games in January going 2-3. It has severely limited Lewis opportunity during her final season of high school to showcase her skills. Lewis is a knockdown shooter who can get to the hoop off the bounce. She has quick hands, a high basketball IQ, and a capable 3-point shooter.
