Class of 2021 guard [player_tooltip player_id="106873" first="Makaiya" last="Brooks"] of Central High made history last night in the city of Springfield.
The 5’9" University of Memphis signee became the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Springfield Public Schools last night in a game against Kickapoo. The magic moment came with less than five minutes left in the second quarter when Brooks hit a short jumper to give her 2,138 points, thus breaking the 25-year old record of 2,137 points that was held by former Glendale star Tara Mitchem.
Brooks’ new scoring record now stands at 2,151 points with several games left to play in what has been a stellar senior season and career at Central. Brooks, Mitchem and former Parkview star Kelsie Cleeton are the only three players in the history of SPS to reach the 2,000-point plateau.
Congratulations to [player_tooltip player_id="106873" first="Makaiya" last="Brooks"] on this tremendous career accomplishment.
