OAB Western Idaho February Showcase: Barlow/Clutch Rose

Final: Barlow 58 - Clutch Rose 39 Today at the Western Idaho February Showcase organized by the OAB, Barlow took on Clutch Rose as familiar foes squared off as they played an exciting game in which individuals from both sides had superb performances. The game started a [player_tooltip player_id="158567" first="Lainey" last="Spear"] drive from the top of the key. On the other end, [player_tooltip player_id="207834" first="Lindsay" last="Barden"] found [player_tooltip player_id="158551" first="Annie" last="Koenig"] for a triple followed by a Koenig to [player_tooltip player_id="158563" first="Rilyn" last="Quirke"] three. This would spark a 14-4 Barlow run to start the game as [player_tooltip player_id="207834" first="Lindsay" last="Barden"] would score off a lay-up and Koenig would find [player_tooltip player_id="158536" first="Melanie" last="Hiu"] for a three. [player_tooltip player_id="158542" first="Kennedie" last="Shuler"] would find Koenig for a three. A Sixta to [player_tooltip player_id="158564" first="Zoe" last="Borter"] three would end the drought for Clutch Rose but Barlow would continue on all cylinders. Barden found Quirke inside as [player_tooltip player_id="158547" first="Madison" last="Naro"] would score off an isolation lay-up. Koenig to Payne for three followed by a Koenig post score. Shuler dance and dribble drive would make is 23-9 Barlow. Shuler to Payne for three followed by a Naro to [player_tooltip player_id="207833" first="Emily" last="Rice"] triple. Hiu to Koenig for three, Hiu tear drop, and Barden isolation drive would see Barlow three consecutive scores. [player_tooltip player_id="158567" first="Lainey" last="Spear"] would have a nice isolation drive and coast to coast basket. Payne board and bucket, Barden isolation score, and Barden baseline isolation would end the half with Barlow up 39-19. The second half would start with two Borter free throws followed by a Shuler to Hiu triple. Barden board and bucket followed by a Spear free throw. Borter to Naro triple and Koenig into Barden. Sixta triple would end the game as Barlow would take it 58-39. [player_tooltip player_id="158536" first="Melanie" last="Hiu"] was a superb facilitator on the perimeter who also found ways to score. As always, [player_tooltip player_id="158542" first="Kennedie" last="Shuler"] drew the defense out and found ways to involve her teammates. [player_tooltip player_id="158551" first="Annie" last="Koenig"] was a superb passer who made some timely passes inside with a simple read and lob into teammates in optimal positions. Barlow had five players with seven points or more - indicative of their ability to share the ball. [player_tooltip player_id="158567" first="Lainey" last="Spear"] Spear is a match-up nightmare as she has the quickness of a guard with a deadly first step but also combines that with her size as an interior scorer. She was difficult to stop when she had the ball in her hands as she used these two characteristics to her advantage. Her 12 points were a variety of drives to the paint in which she showed immense fluidity as a forward who can put it on the floor and either earn a trip to the free-throw line or make an innovative score at the basket. Surprise Performances Barlow had some timely and key performances, as the biggest may have been from [player_tooltip player_id="207834" first="Lindsay" last="Barden"]. She had some huge isolation drives in which she showed fearlessness and mobility as a ball handler not only getting to the paint but finishing. Her 14 point, 5 rebound, 2 assist performance was huge as she was an invigorating spark for Barlow. Olivia Payne was another pleasant surprise as she contributed 12 points and 4 rebounds as a three-level scorer who can contribute as a rebounder. [player_tooltip player_id="158551" first="Annie" last="Koenig"] had a huge performance with her 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists as a lethal scorer and witty passer. Borter & Naro Borter and Naro are yin and yang for Clutch Rose as [player_tooltip player_id="158564" first="Zoe" last="Borter"] is the sharp and aggressive guard who can score in a hurry with her physicality whereas [player_tooltip player_id="158547" first="Madison" last="Naro"] is the floor general with the calm demeanor who sets the tone for her club. Borter contributed 7 points and 4 rebounds including an amazing score where she got to the rim and she showed tremendous touch as the ball bounced off the rim twice before settling in. Naro had 7 pints, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists as she has also showed the ability to drain it from deep.
