There is a ton of basketball talent in Michigan, and that definitely includes the defensive end of the floor. There are elite defenders in the state and even beyond that. Their are elite defenders in the paint and on the perimeter. Let’s take a look at some Preseason DPOY candidates.

Crow is a long 6-4 prospect. She constantly blocks and alters shots making herself a defensive game changer.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="138299" first="Kailee" last="Davis"] (2021, PG, Detroit Renaissance)</strong>
Davis is an exciting defender. She can D up the entire length of the floor and uses her quickness to create turnovers.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="138315" first="Logan" last="Lewis"] (2021, CG, West Bloomfield)</strong>
Lewis is a bona fide lockdown defender. She can guard the opposing teams top perimeter player regardless of position.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27968" first="Alana" last="Micheaux"] (2021, PF, Wayne Memorial)</strong>
Micheaux flat out owns the lane and makes it nearly impossible to be a real threat in the post. Micheaux won’t allow opponents to establish position near the rim.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="138366" first="India" last="Respress"] (2021, SF, Chandler Park)</strong>
Respress is an underrated prospect and should be considered a top defender. She’s surrounded by offensive perimeter talent at Chandler Park, so she’s buttered her bread on the defensive end.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="28042" first="Brooklyn" last="Robak"] (2021, CG, Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes)</strong>
Robak seems to be able to do it all on the court and this includes defending at a high level. She’s a versatile defender that can effectively guard multiple positions.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="138308" first="Kendall" last="Robertson"] (2021, PF, Lake Orion)</strong>
Robertson doesn’t get written about as much as she deserves. She’s one of the top post defenders in the state and deserves more praise for her efforts.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="138326" first="Shealyn" last="Tripp"] (2021, SF, Michigan Center)</strong>
If you haven't heard of Shealynn Tripp, all that means is that she's done her job. She's an effort and energy defender. Tripp can get defensive stops with pure grit and hustle.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="28017" first="Shannon" last="Wheeler"] (2021, PF, Detroit Renaissance)</strong>
Wheeler deserves a lot of credit for her defensive prowess. She can defend basically anywhere on the floor and is often times asked to slow the opponents top post threat. Wheeler is a disciplined defender and can be counted on to pick up big stops.

Wiggins gained a reputation on a national scale for skills on the defensive end. She's a physical and aggressive defender that, quite simply, drives her opponents crazy. Wiggins uses her in your face style to pressure the offense and create turnovers.
