I’ve covered a Winter Jam at the start of the year and I’ll cover a Winter Blast this weekend however last weeks WINTER SLAM was just a mess and got teams off track in Texas for the playoffs however after some creativity, everything is back to normal as the regional semifinals are ready and as I said before the season started, Cy Creek would be the team to beat and they are as they’ve won every game by 20 or more points with the exception of a couple of 12 point wins against Foster, the Region 5 favorite. The Cy Creek backcourt of [player_tooltip player_id="97622" first="Kyndall" last="Hunter"] and [player_tooltip player_id="65878" first="Rori" last="Harmon"] was just named to the McDonald’s All American team, no surprise to me as I called both #D1Lock before their first middle school game, yes I’m that good and they’ve shown that they were as well yet they kept getting better, me not so much but here are the breakdowns
Cy Creek
[player_tooltip player_id="65878" first="Rori" last="Harmon"] and [player_tooltip player_id="97622" first="Kyndall" last="Hunter"] have shown they’re the best backcourt In Texas so that equated to one of the best in the country as both are headed to the University of Texas after their "Last Run" in high school yet the explosive guards have a great supporting cast which includes [player_tooltip player_id="97930" first="Taylor" last="Jackson"] who has turned into a double-double waiting to happen. Haleen Harris has been more than a serviceable asset at the small forward spot while 6’2 Ri’Yah Francis has been an enforcer in the paint, on both ends of the court and that senior starting five is battled tested and is definitely ready for whatever. Trinity Santasiero-5’7 JR can shoot the long ball while 6’3 Jasmyn Jackson JR is long and athletic and creates some problems defensively. Underclassmen [player_tooltip player_id="175527" first="Krishawn" last="Lee"]-6’0 SO and Danielle Ruffin-5’5 FR are gaining valuable experience
Summer Creek
The Ivy League is waiting on [player_tooltip player_id="136329" first="Adaora" last="Nwokeji"] (Princeton) but the explosive guard isn’t quite done yet as she leads her team to yet another run. I like Summer Creek because we have the same initials yet they have made it to the regional semis before and Alayia Francis-5’5 G SR brings plenty of heat herself. I was impressed with the improvement this season from Kaitlyn Duhon 6’2 PF JR but this squad has three of the top freshmen guards in the city Mychal White-5’5, Jayda Woods 5’2, and Torran Detterville 5’2
Shadow Creek
I remember head coach Latoya Micheaux hitting a shot from midcourt as she led Hightower to state back in 2003 which is ironic since I don’t remember what I ate for breakfast yet [player_tooltip player_id="97626" first="Bre’Yon" last="White"] is DYNOMITE and before she heads to Oklahoma, she wants a chance to win a state championship. Fellow senior Rachel Anderson provides power on the inside at 6’0 while another senior, Da’Nae Williams is their sparkplug as her defense at 5’0 is smothering, not to mention she can score. Junior [player_tooltip player_id="135363" first="R’Mani" last="Taylor"] is poised at the point guard, has proven she can run a team while Brooklin Brown, one of the most underrated players in the Texas 2022 class is one to definitely keep an eye on at 5’8
Katy Tompkins
[player_tooltip player_id="200734" first="Crystal" last="Smith"] can fill it up and the senior guard can score in droves yet watch out for some inside play from senior 6’1 Ashley Ngene scoring and rebounding, not to leave out solid defense. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="158696" first="Flyin" last="Adelye"] has expanded her game from more than just a back-to-the-basket player as she can hit the midrange consistently and take defenders off the dribble. How about another sophomore that I called a #D1Lock before her first middle school game, [player_tooltip player_id="134029" first="Loghan" last="Johnson"], need I say more? Yes because she’s a nightmare to defend, she scores more ways than I can describe and when you add "she plays the passing lane" like an All-Pro cornerback .....
