Colorado enters its final week of the new Season B regular rounds with much to decide.
Here’s the latest on how it got here …
--- Hot? You can’t imagine … [player_tooltip player_id="116758" first="Timiya" last="Guevara"] (PGH-Colorado 2021 No. 9) of 5A Denver South proved she can drive 55. She literally went off against Abraham Lincoln in the Denver Prep League. Not only did the 11-1 Ravens win by 105 points, 115-10 – yes, 115-10 – but the Miami-Dade signee erupted for 55 points, third in state history, and made a Colorado-record 15 3-pointers. Her effort of 55 stands behind Abby Waner’s 61 for ThunderRidge (2005) and Tracy Hill’s 59 for Ridgway (1983). And her 15 3-pointers surpassed the mark of 12 by Alamosa’s [player_tooltip player_id="145402" first="Emily" last="Lavier"] a year ago. The 5-4 Guevara, a guard, was coming off a season-low 11 points on 3-of-11 shooting. She has moved to No. 2 in 5A scoring (22.9 points)
--- Since losing to Regis Jesuit 58-53 on Feb. 9, 5A Highlands Ranch has won four times by an aggregate 145 points, most recently by 68-29 over 4A George Washington, giving the Patriots their first loss (they are 10-1). Peyton Muma (PGH-Colorado 2021 No. 4 and Gonzaga signee) has upped her scoring averaged to 18.2 points. [player_tooltip player_id="95179" first="Alex" last="Pirog"] (PGH_Colorado 2022 No. 9, 12.4 points, 8.0 rebounds) and [player_tooltip player_id="95139" first="Tia" last="Slade"] (PGH-Colorado 2021 No. 16, Colorado Mesa, 9.5 points, 7.0 rebounds) have added solid support.
--- With 25 points against Alameda, Green Mountain’s [player_tooltip player_id="95134" first="Courtney" last="Hank"] eclipsed 1,000 career points. She has 46 in her past two outings and is averaging 13.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists for the 4A 12-0 Rams. The PGH-Colorado 2021 No. 13 is unsigned.
--- Weekly [player_tooltip player_id="95167" first="Lauren" last="Betts"] update – Grandview’s Stanford pledge and PGH-Colorado 2022 No. 1 is averaging 19.0 points (third in 5A) and 11.6 rebounds (second in 5A). Recognized as the top player in her class nationally, Betts recently compiled her 1,000th point and with 660 rebounds, three regular-season games to go as well as what surely will be a deep playoff run in March, she’s also an even bet at getting 1,000 for her career. The Wolves are 11-0.
--- 4A Mullen’s [player_tooltip player_id="95130" first="Megan" last="Pohs"] (PGH-Colorado 2021 No. 12, Regis signee) needs 53 points for 1,000 in her career. The Mustangs will play three times this week, beginning Tuesday at home against Cherokee Trail in the Centennial League.
