The Hawks opened up a close game at halftime with a solid second half and a 45-25 victory over Ottawa Glandorf to claim the Ohio Division 3 state title, the sixth in the amazing history of Hiland High School.18 times they have appeared in the final four, and for the first time since 2017, they bring home the gold to Holmes County.
Schlabach completes his tenure at Hiland with nearly 700 career wins and has built an incredible program with the Hawks.
Brynn Mullet Brynn Mullet 5'9" | CG Berlin Hiland | 2021 OH scored 14 points to lead the way for the Hawks including four threes and three steals on defense. Bowling Green signee Zoe Miller Zoe Miller 5'11" | C Hiland | 2021 State OH (pictured above on defense) followed up her solid semi-final game with 12 points and 11 rebounds as she was a force in the paint.
OG was led in scoring by Chloee Glenn with eight points while Erin Kaufman added seven in the loss.
Ottawa Glandorf jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead before Hiland responded with a pair of threes from Mullet and Morgan Yoder Morgan Yoder 5'8" | CG Berlin Hiland | 2021 State OH , sending the Hawks into the lead after eight minutes.
Mullet continued her hot early scoring with a pair of threes in the second quarter to push their lead to 20-11 at the half.
Early in the third period, OG made their last run to close the deficit to 11 when Glenn scored two from the free throw line to make it 24-13 with 3:07 left in the quarter. Mullet quickly answered with a three and they headed to the fourth quarter leading by 12.
Hiland has has five players committed to the next level with Yoder (Ashland), Mullet (Ohio Dominican), Miller (Bowling Green), Kyli Horn (Malone) and Kelsey Swihart (Malone).
As for OG, they are now a three-time state runner-up and lose a key guard in Kelsey Erford Kelsey Erford 5'8" | CG Ottawa Glandorf | 2021 OH .
