Kyndall Hunter Kyndall Hunter 5'8" | SG Cypress Creek | 2021 State #23 Nation TX -5’8 Cy Creek (Texas)
Saw her in the 6th grade and it was a done deal, #D1Lock because of her athletics and ability to score, against a pretty good team a couple of years older. Fast forward to helping lead her team to 3 appearances in the State Championship game, she was named All-Tournamnent multiple times, her NBA range has been o momentum changer yet her creating her shot while being guarded to knock the midrange down as well as the stop and pop from anywhere on the court in transition makes her hard to handle
Jordyn Newsome Jordyn Newsome 5'8" | SG Irving Macarthur | 2021 State TX -5’8 Irving Macarthur (Coastal Carolina)
That first step has always been impressive as well as her shooting but she’s another that understood how to create her shot and with that first step, she had options to either attack or take the pull-up. She also can elevate over defenders for points with a hand in her face but one thing that stood out as she progressed was her “poise under pressure” as she became a go-to performer in the clutch and seeing her drop the three off-balance for wins over and over was a treat
Paige Bradley Paige Bradley 5'9" | SG Bishop Lynch | 2021 State #95 Nation TX -5’9 Bishop Lynch (TCU)
Just helped lead her team to the TAPPS 6A State Championship where she made All-Tournament and is my unofficial choice for MVP because, well just because and by that I mean she found ways to score, the floater, the pull-up jumper, the catch and shoot, the stop and pop not to mention attacking the rim but her mid to long-range has always been something that needed to be addressed yet she stamped it over and over and delivered under pressure
Kendall McGruder Kendall McGruder 5'9" | SG South Grand Prairie | 2021 State TX -5’9 South Grand Prairie (North Texas)
I caught her at the Spring Creek Barbecue Mansfield Rotary and what a lasting impression she left as she scored off the dribble so many times I quit counting but her outside shooting set that up because she created her shot under pressure, knocked the midrange down consistently, and shot the long ball well.
Madison Ott Madison Ott 6'0" | SG Centennial | 2021 State TX -6’0 Frisco Centennial (Clemson)
The Spring Creek event gave me several great first looks at players and watching Ott, who is long and athletic, slice by defenders and drop the pull-up jumper with ease was impressive, especially when she did it from mid to long-range. She also handled the ball in the open court, saw the floor, and made good passes but when it came down to crunch time, she wanted the ball and she made things happen
Gracelynn Alvarez Gracelynn Alvarez 5'9" | SG Heights | 2021 State TX -5’9 Heights (UTEP)
As a 6th grader, her desire to compete just grabbed me as she put her team on her back at an early age which is what she continued to do and that helped make her high school team one of the best in the area. I speak about players that can shoot the 3, have NBA range yet she’s on another level and once she crosses halfcourt, you need to be aware of where she is because she can drop it from 30 feet consistently
Tori Garza Tori Garza 5'8" | SG New Caney | 2021 State TX -5’8 New Caney (Oklahoma State)
We chatted about the first time I saw her and she told me “yeah we lost by 30” and I responded, but you had about 40, and the team she was playing against added even more because a basketball genius once said “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against” and I said many other things about just watching her not crack a smile and drop it with ease from anywhere on the floor
Isabella Earle Isabella Earle 5'8" | SG Denton Guyer | 2021 State TX -5’8 Denton Guyer (Abilene Christian)
Smooth as silk as she showed me she could score in the flow the first time I caught her yet the second time, I think she dropped three from BTA in a 2 minute span in a come from behind victory but her mental toughness under pressure always stands out, she has the “you can’t stop me” mindset and with her form and release, she’s pretty accurate, this includes after contact because she stays with the shot
Amaria Fields Amaria Fields 6'1" | SG McKinney North | 2021 State TX -6’1 McKinney North (Boston College)
I was at the McKinney North tournament a couple of years ago and due to an injury, she was out yet we had one of the best conversations I’ve had with a player as she broke the game and players down but it didn’t surprise me because she’s a heady player that just could flat out score in droves. Her pull-up jumper is hard to handle, she explodes to the rim so you can’t play her too close, and with the added step back with range
Mariah Roberts Mariah Roberts 5'8" | SG Arlington Martin | 2021 State #93 Nation TX -5’8 Arlington Martin (TCU)
Yet impressive player at the Spring Creek Mansfield Rotary Invitational I caught for the first time and watching her create her shot under pressure to either attack the basket or take the pull-up jumper was really good. She could also score in the open court during transition, the stop and pop just couldn’t be stopped as she popped it from mid to long-range, even showed the step-back
Kaley Perkins Kaley Perkins 6'0" | SG Langham Creek | 2021 State TX -6’0 Langham Creek (Oklahoma)
Time has flown and watching her progression on the court from that 6th grader shooting it from BTA has been something. She understands how to get the defender off balance, her shot is just a work of art, and not only is she accurate from outside, she doesn’t force shots and with her adding the “attack the basket” while finishing after contact, she became one of the best scoring threats in the area
