The Texas high school basketball season is now officially in the books. That makes this a good time to take a look back at some of the prospects that impressed me the most. There are several different lists and All-State teams published by a variety of different sources. So, I decided to put together an All-Defense team for the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Here are my selections:

Guard

KK Jones | 2023 | 5’8’’ Point Guard | Denton Guyer HS - Jones defends with intensity from start to finish. She gets down into a stance and stays in front of whoever she is tasked with guarding on the perimeter. The 2023 floor general has quick hands, averaging nearly two steals per game, and is willing to empty the tank on every defensive trip. She is going to be a stud in her next two seasons as she steps into more of a leadership role as an upperclassman.

Guard

Salese Blow | 2023 | 5’10’’ Point Guard | Plano Senior HS - Blow is another energetic on-ball stopper at the one spot. Her quickness and athleticism are very noticeable. She consistently harasses opposing ball handlers, refusing to let anyone get a past her without a fight. The 5-foot-10-inch guard is always engaged and forces opponents to work for every inch.

Forward

Mya Dotson | 2023 | 5’9’’ Small Forward | Lewisville HS - Dotson is a natural on D. Her lateral quickness and defensive instincts are exceptional. The second-year wing showed that she can guard all three perimeter positions at a high level this season. She is fantastic at getting into passing lanes for steals and deflections but can also flat-out take the ball away from whoever is trying to go at her.

Forward

[player_tooltip player_id="135360" first="Tionna" last="Herron"] | 2022 | 6’4’’ Power Forward | DeSoto HS - Herron’s size and length alone would make her a force on defense. Her IQ and versatility at that end take her game to another level. She challenges every shot in her vicinity and is capable of holding her own out on the perimeter. The Kentucky commit is an excellent defensive rebounder too. She is one of the reasons why DeSoto will be the favorite to repeat as 6A state champions next season.

Center

[player_tooltip player_id="136320" first="Mackenzie" last="Wurm"] | 2021 | 6’3’’ Power Forward/Center | Allen HS - Getting to watch Wurm operate as a shot blocker over the last two years has been an absolute treat. She is so disciplined about staying vertical when defending down low and seemingly gets a piece of every shot taken in the paint. The Louisiana Tech commit possesses the length, athleticism, and fundamentals to be an elite interior defender at the next level.
