Down 10-5 early in the second quarter, Nazareth went on a 9-0 run and led 16-11 at the half however a Dodd City 13-0 outburst in the 3rd quarter all but sealed the victory, and here are some of the standouts
Dodd City 32-0
Journie Hilliard-6’3 P senior
Hilliard was named tournament MVP and rightfully so as she had 9 of their 11 first-half points and 11 of their first 15 but she scored with power on the inside, showed good hands and footwork plus she also scored off the dribble from the wing. She rebounded strongly on both ends and played solid defense not only inside the paint but when she stepped outside of it
Dani Baccus-5’6 PG senior
Baccus made things happen by attacking the rim numerous times as well as doing a good job seeing the floor and her finding Hilliard in key moments played a big part in not only their runs but the victory. She scored off the dribble, did a good job creating her shot, that was one of the reasons she attacked well but she also showed she could get her shot off from outside and by attacking one of her lay-ups gave them a 17-16 lead, and they never fell behind
Tori Dotson-5’7 G junior
Dotson played big the second half, she dropped a 3 in the 3rd quarter to extend the lead, 20-16 then came up with a steal and went in for a lay-up, was fouled, and knocked them both down. She’s a gutsy player, she came right back with another steal as well as yet another in the final quarter and scored so her playing the passing lane was pleasing to see
Nazareth 27-5
Merry Gerber-6’1 F senior
Gerber is long and athletic, did a good job on the inside rebounding, both ends of the court, as well as defending and blocking shots, also altering and probably deflected a few yet she also showed she could score and hit a huge 3
Makenzie Corrales-5’5 G junior
Corrales played solid defense, attacked the basket strongly either in the halfcourt set or in the open court but she also handled the ball well under pressure and tried to make some things happen by seeing the floor, she did and hit teammates on the money several times
Iris Schilderink-6’0 P sophomore
Scilderink’s upside is very impressive, she’s already over “the magic number” of 6’0, this fits the profile for several colleges and universities and she showed she could rebound, defend, and had good hands and footwork to score inside but she also showed she could drop the long ball
