After being down 10-4 after one and 19-9 at the half, defending state champ Frisco Liberty outscored Cedar Park by 5 in the third and even cut the lead to 1 however down the stretch, [player_tooltip player_id="134028" first="Gisella" last="Maul"] helped seal the victory. I hadn’t seen Frisco Liberty, I knew about [player_tooltip player_id="65915" first="Jazzy" last="Owens"]-Barnett and what she brought to the table yet they were solid and got after it with big-time shots at the right time from Ashley Anderson-5’7 G junior and huge defensive plays from Journee Chambers-5’5 G sophomore but on the flip Elaine King-5’10 F/C junior was definitely a stopper on defense not to leave out [player_tooltip player_id="136335" first="Alisa" last="Knight"] elevating for huge rebounds but here are some of the standouts from Cedar Park’s 46-39 victory over Frisco Liberty
Frisco Liberty 22-9
Maya Jain-5’9 G senior
Jain hit some big shot early and she hit some big ones late to help fuel the comeback in the second half but she created her shot under some heavy pressure and knocked it down from outside as well as did a good job attacking to either finish or draw the foul
[player_tooltip player_id="65915" first="Jazzy" last="Owens"]-Barnett
Barnett never ceases to amaze me and coming off an Achilles tendon injury, well you’d never know and she’s one of the most explosive players off the dribble in the state, her body control, as well as her strength, allow her to finish after contact and she just makes things happen
Journee Chambers-5’5 G sophomore
Chambers has given me a few looks, first at a camp and briefly at a tournament as I caught the tail end yet her athleticism and her energy just trickles down on her teammates. She hit some off-balance shots, she attacked the basket but her defense was one of the key reasons they stayed in the game
Cedar Park 27-1
Sarai Estupian-5’5 PG senior
Estupian was solid at the 1, she made some big plays down the stretch to help seal it but her "poise under pressure" has always been a definite plus, she showed it on center stage and when you can handle the ball, control the tempo and set teammates up for gimmes ...
[player_tooltip player_id="96925" first="Shelby" last="Hayes"]
Hayes was her usual self, she flirted with a double-double and did a good job not just rebounding but rebounding on both ends. Watching her ignite the break and run the floor as well as step outside of the paint and defend but seeing her react on the picks and switches was nice
[player_tooltip player_id="134028" first="Gisella" last="Maul"]
Maul needs #CLUTCH added to her name, yeah I have seen her come up with some big shots since the 6th grade but this was different, she wanted it and she would not be denied as she took defenders whenever she wanted and with her body control, she’s hard to handle especially when she has an outside game
[player_tooltip player_id="96143" first="Molly" last="Ly"]
Ly has proven herself in so many ways if there was a 6th "player" award or whatever you want to call it, she would be in the running because she ignites her squad immediately with the instant offense as well as speed yet she played some pretty good defense throughout the playoffs, well offensively too as she came off the bench in one of the playoff games to score 15
