As a member of the scorekeeping crew of the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, held annually at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson, I have not been able to release, in a normally timely fashion, some of the all-tournament teams for the Dynasty Classic held last weekend in Lawrence, Kansas. Six pools of four to five teams composed the 17U section, making a great deal to sift through for the section all-tournament teams. I saw almost every team at least once and had help from fellow PGH national scout Mason Asher and PGH Missouri scout Earl Austin to chip in on players for the very few teams I did not. Without further ado, enjoy these lists of players earning a spot on the 17U Dynasty Classic all-tournament teams.

First Team

[player_tooltip player_id="143415" first="Jaidynn" last="Mason"], 2022, 5’6", PG, 2022, Della Lamb 2022 3SSB - The Blue Springs South High School, Missouri, point guard is very skilled with the ball, is very fast in transition, uses strong bursts of speed on the offensive end to create, and is very savvy. She has no hesitation to pull up and shoot and elevates well on her jumper and when rebounding. A high IQ floor leader.
[player_tooltip player_id="197957" first="Tiani" last="Ellison"], 6’1", PF, 2023, Team Tre Young, 2022 - Ellison’s athleticism and work around the basket were strong. Physically strong, she creates and elevates inside very well and gets to hole off the bounce well. Ellison, from Silo High School, Oklahoma, is also fast in transition.
[player_tooltip player_id="211848" first="Toni" last="Papahronis"], 6’1", SG, 2022, Team Tre Young, 2022 - Guards who box well on the perimeter always catch my eye. The North Edmund High School, Oklahoma, guard also shoots it well from beyond the arc, has strong handles and good speed. She also shoots well from the line.
Rylee Vierthaler, 5’11", PF, 2023, Kansas Elite 2022 Novicoff - The Maryville High School, Missouri, post player impressed with her solid handles, strength, offensive aggression and an ability to create shots. Tough and versatile, she scores the ball at a consistent rate.
[player_tooltip player_id="143703" first="Elauni" last="Bennett"], 5’11", PF, 2023, KC Lady Run GMC 2022 UAA - I really enjoyed watching Bennett compete with Team Tre Young’s [player_tooltip player_id="197957" first="Tiani" last="Ellison"]. The Lee’s Summit North power forward matched her physicality, athleticism and quickness defensively. She also showed off her hops, handles, and very quick feet on the block. I would like to see Bennett finish more consistently and improve her mid-range shooting ability.

Second Team

[player_tooltip player_id="187633" first="Emani" last="Bennett"], 6’0", SF, 2023, KC Lady Run GMC 2022 UAA - Like her sister Elauni, Lee’s Summit North High School’s Bennett is fast, athletic, and gets up on rebounds. She also has strong transition handles to finish at speed after getting inside off the bounce. Would also like to see her finish more consistently.
[player_tooltip player_id="160440" first="Mikayla" last="Parks"], 5’8", PG, 2022, Team Tre Young 2022 - The Norman High School, Oklahoma, point guard has terrific athleticism and speed with the ball. What really stood out was her ability to create her own shot.
[player_tooltip player_id="158577" first="Charlotte" last="O’Keefe"], 6’2", C, 2022, KC Lady Run GMC 2022 UAA - The St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Kansas, center has a long, athletic build. She showed substantial versatility and substantial potential. O’Keefe defends on the perimeter well although she was not quite quick enough to defend a couple of the quick, highly skilled bigs she faced off the bounce. She is a adept at altering shots without fouling. Once she gets her three point accuracy honed she will be a consistent three-level scorer. She is a very good mid-range shooter. O’Keefe has handles to clear the ball of rebounds well and occasionally attack off the bounce. I really liked her solid north-south speed and hustle. This was a stock-raising event for her.
[player_tooltip player_id="279714" first="Tyana" last="Walker"], 5’10", CG, 2022, Della Lamb 2022 3SSB - The Kansas City East Christian Academy, Missouri, guard gets to her spots with ease and uses her length well on the defensive side of the ball. She lets the game come to her and does not force decisions. With good length, athleticism on the finish, and quickness off the bounce made her a difficult match-up.

[player_tooltip player_id="213690" first="Ashton" last="Judd"], 6’0", SF, 2022, Assassins 2022 - The West Plains High School, Missouri, forward can do many things well. She elevates well, has good size and length, and has handles to create. I liked her ability to use high screens to score on mid-range jumpers. She also has quicks to play the point defensively and close up half court traps. Judd uses her size, length, and hops well on rebounds.

Third Team

Emma Jimenez, 5’5", PG, 2022, BC Denver 2022 Gold - From Mountain Range High School, Colorado, Jimenez not only caught my eye with her ball speed but also her quick release on three point shots off the catch. Has the ability to will her team from behind for wins. She’s a really solid, quick release, shooter from beyond the arc and was able to get into the lane and dish it off to open teammates. Jimenez was impressive with her overall offensive ability. Whether pressuring the ball, finishing lay-ups, pushing the ball in transition, scoring with under-the-basket circus shots or hitting the three Jimenez left it all on the floor.
[player_tooltip player_id="106869" first="Jacqueline" last="David"], 6’0", PF, 2021, KC Lady Run GMC 2022 UAA - The William Chrisman High School, Missouri, 2021 started her day by showing off her ability to seal defenders inside and her back-to-basket game once she got the ball in her hands. I liked her quick feet on her moves and athleticism on the finish. Works hard to seal on the post up. Good interior footwork and athleticism on the finish. Solid back-to-basket game.
[player_tooltip player_id="117691" first="Amelia" last="Solt"], 2022, 5’3", PG, 2022, BC Denver 2022 Gold - Thompson Valley High School, Colorado. was all over the court in their match up this afternoon. Really liked her ability to get to the rim and score the ball but was also really good as a distributor. Came up big in the clutch moments. Corner 3 off the catch. Moves well into space. Works hard to create off the bounce.
[player_tooltip player_id="94971" first="Rebecca" last="Snyder"], 6’0", 2023, Next Level Eclipse Stewart 2022 - Emporia High School, Kansas, competed well on both ends of the floor and transitioned with speed. She showed good hands in transition, giving guards running the break opportunities to gather assists. She made good use of her length when finishing at speed. Battles and challenges hard. Good transition catch to finish. Good length. Needs to get stronger and improve back-to-basket techniques. Can finish with either hand. Always looks left then spins right on block moves.
Kelsey Koza, 5’6", CG, 2022, State 38 Basketball 2022 - The Severance High School, Colorado, combo guard showed a knack for consistently exploiting defensive mistakes of her opponents. She used good speed and handles to get to the basket. She then made opponents pay for fouling her by knocking down her free throws.
