Sophia Vital Sophia Vital 5'3" | PG Tabor Academy | 2023 State New E – Tabor/Bay State Jaguars – 5’3’’ – PG
PGH Rank: #11
Vital was tremendous over the weekend to the point where I started referring to the floor general by her moniker “Big Soph.” The 5’3’’ point guard played like a giant and on Saturday, in particular, had every pair of eyes on her. She checked every box for what it takes to be the best player in your class. Electric offense, scrappy defense, leadership, you name it, Vital had it. The biggest takeaway from the weekend was that Vital sent a message to everyone that if you want to be the best player in the class of 2023, you have to go through Big Soph to achieve it.

Chinenye Odenigbo Chinenye Odenigbo 6'6" | C Noble & Greenough | 2023 State New E – Boston Showstoppers – 6’6’’ – C
PGH Rank: #2
Odenigbo was a very impactful player whenever she stepped on the floor. Meaning, when she is on the court, she strikes fear into the opposing team by her presence alone. There is no way to slow her down when she catches the ball on the block. If Odenigbo saw single coverage, she dominated the matchup and scored at will. When a double team came, she would draw a foul. Whenever the Showstoppers could get the ball inside, it resulted in a positive offensive possession more often than not. On top of being a terrorizing presence on both sides of the ball, she showed excellent touch on her free throws, which is crucial for Odenigbo because she will get hacked more than anyone in the region. Her stock rose not in the sense that I believe she will shoot up to #1 by June, but she created a significant gap between herself and the rest of the field from #3 on down.

Chayil Mauristhene Chayil Mauristhene 5'8" | SG Noble & Greenough | 2023 State New E – Noble & Greenough/Boston Showstoppers – 5’7’’ – CG
PGH Rank: #14
Mauristhene is one of the best on-ball defenders I have seen at the guard spot. The way she uses her athleticism and lateral quickness to stay in front of ball-handlers define a shut-down defender. Mauristhene always accepts the challenge of guarding the best perimeter player on the opposing team, and I love how she never backs down from it. She showcased a plethora of creative moves off the dribble that immediately got my attention. Her persistence in getting to the rim and winning a handful of one-on-one matchups in late and close situations put Mauristhene in the top ten discussion.
Lucy Palmer Lucy Palmer 5'8" | PG New Hampton | 2023 State New E – Bradford Christian/ Lady Rivals – 5’8’’ – PG
PGH Rank: #17
Palmer was good at facilitating the Lady Rivals offense. She is always conscious of the moment and knows when to push the pace and slow it down and run the halfcourt set. Palmer has always been terrific at setting the table for her teammates, but her outside shooting caught my attention. Palmer is not a player who is going to explode for 20 points on a nightly basis. She is excellent at taking what the defense gives her and scoring when the opportunity presents itself. Her ability to space the floor with catch and shoot threes all weekend and her finishing at the rim was so efficient it was hard not to include her on this list. If Palmer is going to be that locked in shooting the basketball consistently, she can rise to as high as the #2 point guard behind Sophia Vital Sophia Vital 5'3" | PG Tabor Academy | 2023 State New E .
Kendall Eddy Kendall Eddy 5'8" | CG Brooks | 2023 State New E – Brooks/Lady Rivals – 5’8’’ – CG
PGH Rank: #33
Eddy could potentially make the most significant jump out of anyone on the list. Her skill set caught me off guard because her highlights did not show me how incredible a ball-handler she is. Eddy can seamlessly play both guard positions because of her playmaking ability and her lights-out knock-down shooting. She is also an excellent defender who is long and athletic enough to swallow up her assignment. The ceiling for Eddy is extremely high and can be in contention for a top 5 guard in the class of ’23
