2022 Paint Protectors to Watch
6-3 C [player_tooltip player_id="195604" first="Detavia" last="Salter"] – Bainbridge
I’ve long sung the praises of [player_tooltip player_id="195604" first="Detavia" last="Salter"]. I think she could be a difference maker at the D-II level and a possible D-I prospect. She’s got the size to play at the next level, but more importantly the skill. Her footwork in the low post is impressive. She is even nimble enough to attack off the dribble. Salter averaged 12.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 4.3 blocks as a interior stalwart.
6-0 F [player_tooltip player_id="188305" first="Ella" last="Grace Squires"] – Brookwood (GISA)
The motor of [player_tooltip player_id="188305" first="Ella" last="Grace Squires"] helps her impact games on both ends of the floor. The long forward runs the floor and can catch and finish on the move. Defensively, she has very good timing and uses her length to block shots without fouling. Squires averaged 7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.3 blocks. While she may not get as much exposure outside of the GHSA, Squires is worth a look at the D-II and D-III level as a versatile forward.
6-5 C [player_tooltip player_id="253926" first="Saniya" last="Jones"] – Duluth
[player_tooltip player_id="253926" first="Saniya" last="Jones"] may be one of the most physically imposing posts in the state. When I saw her prior to her junior season, her size was eye-popping. Jones enjoyed a breakout campaign posting 8.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.7 blocks. With another year of steady development, it will be interesting to see what becomes of her collegiate career.
5-11 F [player_tooltip player_id="285228" first="Mackenzi" last="Salas"] – Creekview
Creekview has had a long line of impactful posts. [player_tooltip player_id="285228" first="Mackenzi" last="Salas"] has grown into a double-double threat with her nose for the ball and agility around the rim. She averaged 9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. Creekview should be one of the bigger teams in Class 6A next season and Salas will be a focal point inside.
6-3 F [player_tooltip player_id="118142" first="Lazaria" last="Spearman"] – Dacula
The Miami-commit has had a historic career at Dacula as one of the best rebounders and overall posts in Gwinnett County history. She averaged 20 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocks. Spearman is an elite athlete that springs off the ground quickly for rebounds. Her ball handling is good enough to play on the perimeter and take defenders off the dribble. Spearman can shoot the three and is an eraser on defense.
